Homer the Whopper - Episode Discussion

Get ready folks - it's Season 21!

From The Simpsons Archive

"Homer the Whopper"
Episode #LABF13

Homer is cast as the title character in the "Everyman" movie, based on a comic strip created by Comic Book Guy; the only problem is, while Everyman gains the superpower of all of the heroes in any comic book he touches, he isn't supposed to look like he has gained all of their weight as well.

Thanks for posting the description for the season premiere. This sounds like a good episode, especially with the Comic Book Guy in it.

BTW it`s hard to believe that The Simpsons are about to start Season 21. I never thought that it would be still be on, but yet it`s still going strong and has outlasted great shows like The Cosby Show(remember Bart vs. Bill?), Cheers, Frasier, Friends and E.R. just to name a few. It seems like yesterday that it was the hot new show on TV, which makes me feel old. Plus a testament to The Simpsons` long run is Kelsey Grammer (Sideshow Bob) about to start his fourth show with Hank and his daughter Spencer starring on her own in Greek.

I know what you mean Rod. This show started while I was in college.

Was I imagining or was this the first time a Simpsons episode was bleeped?

I think that it likely was.

As for the episode itself, i thought it was a good mocking of how Hollywood is these days, especially with the glut of comic book movies and the Comic Book Guy going all Hollywood. Thankfully he freed himself and gave the Everyman movie the ultimate Worst Movie Ever Made review.

You have to respect CBG for not selling out. It probably would have been easy for him since it was his "baby".

It was a shame Homer went back to his old eating habits, yet funny that the film producers still attempted to splice the scenes with both fit and unfit Homer.

The episode is re-airing this Sunday (10/25). It seems kind of early to be in reruns - it's only been a month since its first airing.

Blerg. I'm home tomorrow and I thought there would be a new Simpson's ep. I already saw this one. But I liked it and most likely will watch it again.

I forgot to mention this before. The episode was only the second time an episode was written by a guest writer - Seth Rogen.

I didn't remember Homer pole dancing from the last time I watched the episode.

No - Homer swearing in the episode where Lisa gets night terrors from sleeping next to a graveyard was also bleeped.

As for the episode, it was pretty forgettable but had some great moments. Off the top of my head:

*Comic Book Guy telling Bart and Milhouse how, if his comic book ever got outside his store, he would be shunned by the online community, then proceeding to rattle off a list of usernames.

*The producer's kid telling him about 'Everyman'.

*"I produced Bad Summer Movie, the parody of bad summer movies that ended up being an insult to bad summer movies".

Homer Simpson: Can you help me out? I need change for a dollar. Oh - I also need a dollar.
