It's a typical start of an episode - the beginning has nothing to do with the actual storyline, but it leads to the plot.

Just saw this one last night. It was pretty good, in a random sort of way. I loved Homer & Lisa teaming up in France, and Lisa wearing a Madeline outfit. I also loved the scene where Marge wandered off and back on screen recounting all the family vacations that had gone wrong over the years. Springfield Air with Blinky as the mascot...not sure if we've seen that before in an earlier episode, but I liked it. Jay Leno was a fun guest star, even if suddenly finding a classic car hidden under a tarp in the garage you've had forever is kind of far-fetched even for The Simpsons.

I was not expecting that blue snake to pop out of the briefcase, so that startled me.

Have you watched Kill Bill, Part 2? Spoiler alert: There's a snake that comes out of the briefcase

I haven't seen either Kill Bill movie. Thanks for the tip. I'm just going to avoid that one now. Not a fan of snakes. That first Whacking Day event they did on Tapped Out was hard for me to get through. So glad they opted out of doing that again in the subsequent years...

Well, Lisa didn't like the whacking part of it. The compromise was to "pet" the snakes to eliminate them.

The petting part this year was fine by me because it only happened once and then they were gone. I actually like the Wild West snake with the revolver and the one from years ago with the football helmet. They're kind of cute. I just can't handle them crawling all over my town for a month.
