'Kong' remake grabs hold of Hanks, Chandler

Colin Hanks and "Early Edition" star Kyle Chandler have been tapped to join the gorilla gang in Peter Jackson's "King Kong" for Universal Pictures. [The duo join stars Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody in the reimagination of the classic story. Hanks is on board to play a production assistant to filmmaker Carl Denham (Black) with Chandler in negotiations to play a 1930s B-movie actor opposite Watts' character, Ann Darrow. Andy Serkis is providing the reference for the character of Kong, who will be a completely CGI character, as well as playing the role of Lumpy the cook. Jackson said he is excited to work with Hanks and Chandler.

"The fun part of my job is getting to work with talented actors like Colin -- because they bring so much more to a role than what is written on the page," he said. "Kyle is playing a B-movie actor who appears in the film Denham is shooting on Skull Island. It's a film within a film, and I'm sure he'll make the most of the dramatic opportunities."

Thanks to Kel and Hoodie for the info.

I'm so psyched for this movie to come out. The cast and Peter Jackson doing an icon like King Kong. Sounds great.

I thought it need its own thread. Every little tidbit would be appreciated.

ETA: I forgot! Thanks so much to CAfan for giving us the heads up on this wonderful news!

OMG!! Peter Jackson is talking about OUR COLIN!
::giggles like an 11 yearold girl::

I HATE King Kong and I hated that Peter was making this movie after The Ring's but now I'm starting to re-think that.

Thanks for letting us know.

I'm pretty sure that two weeks ago, I would have said, "I'll never watch the King Kong remake" and now I'm "When will it be shown? and where? when? where are pictures?"

and that all only because of Colin :)

related article (from motv.com)

"Scrubs" star Zach Braff, who wrote, directed and starred in the upcoming "Garden State," will next direct the big-screen adaptation of the children's book "Andrew Henry's Meadow," which he and brother Adam Braff are scripting. "It's a big, fun, summer kids' movie," Zach said. "It's kind of like 'Goonies' on acid ... but PG, believe it or not." ... Colin Hanks is the latest actor to sign on for Peter Jackson's "King Kong" remake. Tom Hanks' son will play a production assistant to Jack Black's filmmaker character, Carl Denham, in the movie, which will also star Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody.

I'm so happy for Colin. He will be working in THE film of 2005!

I really love the original Kong of the thirties but hated the seventies remake with Jessica Lange.

Liz-like 07-10-2004 02:22 PM

Are they going to be filming it in New Zealand?

I loved the original too. Which is why I'm not to keen on the remakes. But Colin sort of changes that.

Liz-like, that's a really good question. I don't know where it's being filmed. Hopefully, someone in the know will inform us soon.

Yes, King Kong is going to be filmed in New Zealand. This is a good thing...'cos I live in Wellington - where Peter Jacksons studios are !!!
On the harbour you can already see a huge boat he has bought for in the movie. The newspapers here are advertising for extras...ooh...could be my opportunity to meet Colin :b
