I started the same thread on the Liv Tyler board. They're interesting so let's discuss! ![]() __________________ I'm whipped! Angie got me up at 7:30 today. | Great topic, I read somewhere that his sister wants to be a writer. __________________ Principal: "Mr. Echolls, may I have a word?" Logan: "'Anthropomorphic.' It's all yours, big guy." | |||

Thanks for the pictures Kelly. __________________ I'm whipped! Angie got me up at 7:30 today. Did you know that in the morning, they have food, TV, almost everything. | Elite Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OK here's the Premiere article I keep promising: They describe Tom Hanks and some of his friends in Dodgers Stadium skybox: Tonight, Hanks grabs a perch at the front of the box and alertly-if wryly-scores the game out loud. "That's 6-3," he announces more to himself than anyone else as the first batter grounds out to shortstop. It's a characteristically inclusive, populist, but also precise and admonitory touch; he's beguiling us all into watching the game he so clearly enjoys. With the arrival of his actor son Colin, 26, and daughter Elizabeth, 22 (both from his first marraige to the late Samantha Lewes), he goes into easy but animated father mode, as the three sit and watching and occasionally laughing hard at the shared witticisms. (He's also had two children with Rita Wison - Chester, 14, and Truman, 8.) That Hanks is a devoted family man is part of his biographical boilerplate by now. More than any other star, we feel we know him-a mark of his craft, for as he hints below, much lies hidden. So your Oscar acceptance speech for Forrest [Gump], a year after your emotional one for the Philadelphia Oscar - was it something of a blur? My mom and Rita were downstairs with me, and my kids were up on the second balcony. So I made it to the top of the stairs - you've got to be careful - and when I'm walking up there I see my kids with their arms out like this [makes hailing gesture]. That's what I remember. I'm recalling a conversation we had on the set of The Man With One Red Shoe in 1984. You dourly mentioned what a *Leave It To Beaver*, suburban life you had with your then wife Samantha. A couple of months later you went off to Volunteers, costarring Rita Wilson. Let's see, I would have been 28 years old. And things were not good. [The first marraige] was never easy, and it was always extremely complicated just by the fact that we were ridiculously young - do you know anything in your twenties? [laughing] Should anybody be married in their twenties? I'm not so sure. But there was a desperation of survival at that time. And you turn around and I had two kids - two extraordinary kids. Trying to get by in a town that we just didn't like. And in a house where - look, there's nothing wrong with compromise, but when it's nothing but bitter compromise...On one hand, [career] things are going extraordinarily well, but you're really just operating on fumes, operating on pure instinct. So you then embark on raising kids despite a broken home - just as you'd been raised. You once cited you had three moms, five schools, and ten homes growing up. That's true. I'm trying to figure out - okay, I must have some responisbility in all of this stuff. I can't just be a log on the wave. I'm glad I was in the creative arts, because the work is always emotional somehow - a channel to escape from the day, and to examine it somehow. To utilize it. Right after Volunteers, I did Nothing In Common. That was a movie in which a vast amount of stuff was based on my going through all this stuff - I'm 28 years old, I've got two kids, I'm in the process of getting a divorce. I'm living out of a suitcase in a hotel room somewhere - no matter what you do for a living, that just ain't glamorous and it ain't very happy. But I was doing the type of job that said, "Well, how do I use this then?" So you try to extract the useful lessons from your own childhood. On the other side, I am a dad, you know. I have these kids who are going through something, of which I am the cause, and I also have to be the arbiter of their safety and security somehow. That's something that you can ponder for a long time. And you can beat yourself up for it, but after a while you have to say, I now have to take responsibility and try to make things better, and try to explain that it's nobody's fault...to get to where you can go through it and everybody can examine it at the same table. The same Tom who took 300 - mile bus rides to see his own divorced mom was now traveling upstate to see Colin and Elizabeth - in school plays or whatever. Yeah, they were living in Sacramento, I would do all that stuff. It was saying, look, I'm a part of your life whether you like it or not. It's Parenting 101. I think you're extraordinary and I want to hang around with you. You can't hurt my feelings, and I hope to assuage yours, when the time comes...This is how we live now. There's no cause, effect, blame, so you just get on with it. All you've got to do is love them, that's it. All you've got to do is say, there ain't enough you can do to hurt my feelings. There's nothing you can do that's going to make me love you less. So, there you have it. __________________ I'm whipped! Angie got me up at 7:30 today. A lot of celebirties sugarcoat their relationship so much. Obviously, the Hanks's are more down to earth. __________________ I'm whipped! Angie got me up at 7:30 today.
