Alex seemed to respond to the aliens according to their personalities rather than "the secret" (which got old after awhile). That's what kept the character fresh for me.

Yes, I think Alex viewed the aliens as who they were (Michael, Max, Isabel) without focusing on the fact that they were aliens. It was just a part of who they were. I don't think he was every really afraid of them - he seemed to have an easier time assimiliating his new knowledge and dealing with it than Liz or Maria did (of course, he also was given time, since he wasn't instantly thrown into an alien-related crisis) and while he had questions, it didn't seem to noticably change the way he interacted with any of them. He was afraid of alien-related dangers that came up, like with the Special Unit or dangerous invading aliens, but he wasn't afraid of the Pod Squad. Because he had already known them, and gaining the knowledge that they were aliens didn't change the way he thought about them.
I think the kids were friends (some closer than others), with Tess included to a lesser degree. But I do wish the series had shown that more. __________________
