The UnGraduate Discussion

Excited about catering the wedding, Sookie pressures Lorelai to set a date, but Lorelai won't commit.

I live in Pennsylvania, USA and have a long 6hr. and 15min. to go.

Hopefully I have a ton of paperwork to do at my job, so I can be by a tv.

My thoughts:

Overall, it was pretty good. The L/L storyline interested me the most, though.

What really bothers me is how much like Emily and less like herself Rory is becoming. I really don't think Logan is doing enough to try to convince her to go back to school. Although Rory is a big girl and can make her own decisions, in this case, she needs someone influential to talk to her about it; if Lorelai, Luke, and Paris can't do it, Logan is the next closest person to her.

The fact that Rory joined the DAR absolutely boggles my mind. She's a young girl who belongs at Yale. The end scenes made it so obvious - she was standing outside of Yale with other people her own age and who are like who she used to be and hopefully still is a little. As she was inducted into the DAR, she was surrounded by people more like Emily.

Still not used to the girls not interacting with each other. I really miss that about the show. Luke is a saint, though. He hates dogs, yet rushes PA to the vet, and stays with him during the better part of the night while the pup's ill. Is it possible to love that man any more?

I liked Paris and Luke.

Everything else either bored or irriated me, ie. Band, Rory, Logan, TJ, construction crew

I understand Lorelai not setting a wedding date b/c of the rift with Rory, but it made absolutely no sense to me in the context of that scene. The timing I guess. I did appreciate Luke's response though...which wasn't so much a response as an understanding.

Was it just me or was AB the spitting image of Audrey Hepburn at the DAR initiation?

She was looking at him with such love, and she just wanted to make it very clear that her only reason for not setting a wedding date was because of her fight with Rory. The last thing she wanted to do was for him to start doubting her feelings, and she wanted to make this clear to him now. He seemed to understand how her mind was working perfectly.

Lorelai's timing was awful in that last scene. Luke's just documented his utter and complete devotion to Lorelai via his long and tiring night with Paul Anka and all Lorelai can say is "I don't want to set a date until things are good with Rory." No thank you, no acknowledgement, nothing. Luke's all give and she's all take.[/rant]

In a way I do agree wtih you. But she just wanted to make sure he knew why she wasn't ready to start settling on a wedding date. She could of i guess told him in a different time but i think that after she heard the whole story about paul anka and everything Luke had to go through she saw how much he cared for the dog and her feelings that maybe she wanted t him to know that she is not trying to push of the wedding its just that she is not ready to start planning it and stuff when she is in a fight with rory...she probally wants her daughter to help her with everything and if they are in a fight she wont enjoy the whole prewedding excitement and stuff. So thats why she just had to tell him IMO.

No, I wasn't questioning why she said it. I was saying that both the writing and/or timing was off for the statement she made. It came out of nowhere. I don't recall Luke in the episode ever wondering why she hadn't set a wedding date. So yes, I saw her love for what he'd done, but it just made no sense why the writer had Lorelai bring it up at that moment. Maybe if she'd said, "Luke, I love you (HA, fat chance of those words ever coming out on this show it seems)....and just so you're not wondering why I haven't set a date, it's because I need my daughter at my wedding." it would have made sense. There was just no context provided. Poorly written, wonderfully acted.
