Speculation Thread

Hope it's okay I do this...I just remembered there was a Spoiler-Free Spec thread that I really liked. Someone started it just before the board crash. Anyways, thought I'd bring it back...I don't remember any of the specs people had posted. But based on the last aired episode...thoughts anyone?

The one SL on my mind is the Emily/Richard-house in Stars Hollow SL...what do you think they are doing? I thought maybe wedding present...but Lorelai just remodelled her house, and that would be odd.

Thread went up in smoke. But on the bright side at least it's clean and not filled with pages of nothingness. Thanks for restarting it.

I'm in a bit of a twilight zone. The board I was visiting while we were down wasn't as careful policing spoilers as they are here and especially after they closed their spoiler thread their angry denizens invaded every other thread. They used spoiler tags (almost absurdly extensively) but their general outraged attitude made it difficult not to read between the lines. I will admit having half the posts blacked out like top secret CIA document was a little neat.

Don't really know what they know, whether it is a season finale thing, or whether they are just going beserk over some rumor. All reasons why I don't want to be spoiled at the moment. Not knowing is fun and opens up a world of possibilities of what might or might not happen. Being spoiled just throws out tantalizing often inaccurate and out of context tidbits. Which if you don't like them leads to angry and bitter people talking about how the show is ruined and should be cancelled. Until they find something they do like and the ululation turns into ecstatic cries of joy. Bit too much of a schrizophrenic existence for my taste.

Anyway if what I think they are complaining about does end up happening... I'll go out of my way to find some creative ways to support it. Just out of spite for spoiling me.

I hope they do move to Star's Hollow because it would be fun. First season Emily used to visit Star's Hollow and explore around. Guess the show's been too busy with it's various romantic intrigues for that.

As far as a wedding gift. That would prove awkward. If Lorelai didn't want to move out of her house when Luke was presenting a home why would she take one from her parents who she lives in mortal fear of having to "owe" anything to. She always complains about "strings." However if she did accept it would show a new level of maturity from her which would be nice. Just not sure I've seen much maturing on her part.

But being out there this late in the game the house does have to be relevant. Either it could be a present as you suggested. Maybe Lorelai/Luke move in to not offend her parents or perhaps a bit more likely she rejects it and her parents are hurt and angry. And the rift continues ad nauseum over something stupid. Or there is a rift between Lorelai and Luke and she feels the need to move out and the new house comes useful despite it's intention.

But again hopefully the grandparents come to town and create mischief.

Others specs.

- On the Lorelai Side. Luke seems almost embarassed and reluctant to tell April who Rory is. Makes me wonder if Anna knows about Lorelai (and Anna not knowing who her child might be spending time with would be very bad for Luke) and whether he's going to do or say someting REALLY stupid to push Lorelai over the edge. Though hopefully the opposite happens and he sees it isn't a big deal and things become a bit less dysfunctional.

Right now I'd predict one last breakup as a form of catharsis with them getting back together for good next season and probably marrying unless a spinoff with Luke becomes a possibility. (I'm assuming Alexis and Lauren don't re-up and the show as we know it ends). I'm hoping we don't see a Dawson's Creek redux with everyone Rory and/or Lorelai ever dated coming back for a series finale for the "suspense" of finding out who they end up with. I just hate those type of endings in general.

- On the Rory side. Milo has a pilot and Jess came out of that encounter less than impressed with her. Don't see him doing much with the story. And a one night stand without and guarantee of him coming back would be awkward. Right now despite the friction I don't see them breaking up because they aren't building up any alternatives. So I see the waters between them calming at least as far as them romantically.

We still have the London thing looming which could be a cliffhanger. The skydiving stuff he talked about last week (a darwian exercise meant to thin the human species of not so bright trust funders) points to continued irresponsibility. Right now I see perhaps their cliffhanger being either Logan standing up to Mitch. Or perhaps the opposite. Mitch standing up to Logan and cutting him off until he gets his act together.

My before the season finale (un)educated guesses.

On Rory. My prediction still stands. Him going to London will be the cliffhanger. Does he stay? Does he go? Does she stay? Does she go?

Does Logan stand up to Mitch? Or perhaps does Mitch stand up to Logan about his reckless behavior?

At least in romantic terms I predict a happy ending come the start of next season.

On Lorelai. From the previews I don't get the sense things go well for Luke and Lorelai. And after the episode before last I'm not all that disturbed by it. I want Lorelai to stand up to Luke no matter which way things go. Right now I'd say Lorelai gives Luke an ultimatum. He continues to use April as an excuse. She calls everything off. And he realizes too late that he just made a big mistake.... with a probable reconcilation sometime next season.

And there is also Chris. I've been downplaying the possibility of the two of them together. But he is in the previews. And this show has the habit of always having a "backup" when a pairing begins to sour. I still don't think anything will happen and it's probably the promo guy teasing us (like the "pregnancy" thing of last week). But if the Rory side is left up in the air they might want to make the Lorelai side more climatic. (Or perhaps in favor of things going well with Luke, if the Rory side is in doubt.. they might make the Lorelai side more certain).

If Chris does pair up with Lorelai I hope they do so with a plan to do something with his character. And it isn't just to show him as some loser... though hopefully not as a saint either. Ideally I'd want it to be something where we get to learn more about the Chris-Lorelai backstory and what happened between him, Lorelai, and the grandparents in the years after she left but before the first season began. I'd also hope they'd show him less as an overreactive goob like they did season 5 and 6 and more like he was season 3. And perhaps something about what is going with Sherry. Last we heard she went to work in Europe.

A Chris pairing would be different than a Luke pairing in a positive and negative way. Chris is better on the smaller things. He'd pick up more readily on whether Lorelai is unhappy and would be better on the smaller gestures to make her happy. On the other hand if there was a hole in the roof.. Luke would fix it. Chris would scratch his head three years later when it fell on his head. Lorelai would be in a relationship with someone who is weak and who needs constant guidance. It can work (see Ozzy and Sharon Osborne)... but to the extent there is a knight in shining armour fantasy... Lorelai would be the knight, Chris would be the helpless Princess. A post-modern rather than traditional love story.

But for me it would be a tad unsatisfying since I really liked Rory's scenes with Chris first and second season. That was the main reason I wanted more of him in the story and why I wanted Lorelai with Chris back in season two.

And in the end probably Lorelai would end up with Luke by the end of the series for no other reason than Luke has been the more important character in the story for six seasons and thus there will be a bigger motivation to make him happy than to make Chris happy. But for me what would matters most is that we see some growth from the characters (Lorelai, Chris, Luke) and that we learn more of what has happened in the story no matter where the immediate plotline takes us.

That said. I still think nothing happens between Chris and Lorelai. I just figure they would've given us some romantic vibes if anything was in the cards.

On Lane. I will go out on a limb and predict the band will still bite.

Personally, I'm hoping nothing happens with Christopher. He's not needed in Lorelai's life right now. Yeah, if she goes to him, it's showing that he's always been there in the background and such. But if he lets something happen, it shows that he hasn't grown at all over the past 3 years. And he was making such progress with Gigi.

I think Lorelai gives Luke an ultimatum, you are probably right there. But if it causes a rift between the two, I hope it doesn't take forever for them to get back together (because you know they will). I don't want a "Friends"-type ending. We've been there and done that even if you never watched Friends. And I know it's not ASPs show anymore, but I always thought she said she didn't want to go that way. And that's not just the JJ in me talking.

With Rory, yeah, her cliffhanger will probably be the London story. Who knows what will happen there...I'm not even sure I understand what's keeping those two together...I've never invested much in that relationship because we've never seen anything below the surface of that one.

My dream beginning would be Emily tapping on Lorelai's jeep window and waking her up from the nightmare of her life - yeah not going to happen, but I can dream, right?

Mareike, I like your fantasy but yeah, it's another version of the dream scenario and like you, I don't buy that.

I'm reading all these fanfics now and I think - if we accept that the finale really happened - then I'd like to see them work that through as quickly as possible. Except that I think there's a lot to go through before they get to a reconciliation. And I really don't want to wait that long.

So I guess I'd spec/wish for the first couple of episodes to follow straight on, then use the summer break to let four months go buy. That way it might be more plausible to get back on track by, say, episode 4.

I really, really want this to start something happening between Lorelai and her parents. But I don't want the LL angst to carry on even if it leaves the writers space to pursue the Gilmore family - because it upsets and distracts me and I want to be able to really pay attention when they start dealing with the family issues.

Sorry this sounds less like spec and more like a wish list? I'm not sure what the difference is.

My Spec:

Lorelai didn't sleep with Chris. Luke and Lorelai figure out their differences. They get married. Have a few kids. Chris disapears into the background and is never seen again.

Well, a girl can dream can't she?

This is probably the wrong thread, but I've been looking for some great Clips of Gilmore Girls (mainly the Alexis Bledel scenes) that are either HDTV, but preferrably 600xlike around 400. If anyone can find any that would be great. I need to find clips to cap for my site, but can't seem to find any good ones.

That's the way it usually goes, so I can see that happening. Of course, DR might not go the usual route.

I had a thought that maybe Luke and Lorelai get back on track sometime maybe by episode 4 and if not then, HOPEFULLY by November sweeps. Although I would hate to wait that long. This season was frustrating enough--even with all the good points. So then they get married maybe at the end of the Nov. sweeps, because you can't really follow up a hugely awaited wedding with much else the very next week. So we go into winter hiatus and come back with a newly married couple.

Yes I'm trying to remain extremely positive. lol

You're right, it's the way it usually goes, and I wasn't even thinking that. Funny, because for past seasons I didn't really care. Sometimes I wished they'd show more of the summer, same as I'd like to see a Christmas and other holidays.

This year I'd really like to fast-forward past the summer. With my luck, watch it be the one they show.

Any specs on do-they/don't-they show June 3rd?

You know, I bet they don't show June 3rd, but they mention it. And mention what happened since there apparently isn't going to be a wedding on June 3rd.

NathanAndHaley, I know one possible place but I'd have to PM you about it and you need 11 posts before you can send or receive PMs. (Some of the games on this board, like the ABCs or Word Association, can be a good way to get more posts when you're new.)

I like that idea. Because I really don't want to see it. I'm such a coward.

You know, I really don't want to see June 3rd either. But only because I just want them to move the storyline ahead faster!
