I like Rory, warts and all, but the revival left her at such a miserable place imo. Maybe I change my mind when/if I rewatch. There could be some optimism in her sl that I’m overlooking. For example, her accepting that just because journalism didn’t work out the way she expected doesn’t mean she can’t have other dreams (i.e. the book) was kinda nice. But I really hate the pregnancy sl.

I didn't take issue with her regression because I believe that to be normal in life. Sometimes it's one step forward two steps back, but it's how we live and learn and people don't just get over their issues, some live on to repeat them. If anything, it's kind of comforting to me to watch her screw up and flail. I enjoy watching people's flaws and where they go from points of destruction. Rory will be fine, she's just understandably nervous about motherhood and how it will affect her life. I don't see that ending as depressing or total regression, it's progression as in she's progressing to the next stage in her life which will be peppered with both happiness and sadness and fear and hope. The difference between this and Lorelai raising Rory on her own is that Rory has an enormous web of support from family and friends. I've no doubt Logan will be a MUCH better and more present father than Christopher ever was. So, I don't look at it negatively at all, I look at it positively and my love for this character grew exponentially throughout this revival. Now, please be gentle with the tomato throwing?

I just had a slight problem with Rory because she felt OOC for me despite knowing that regression etc. is normal. But i'm not sure if you totally go OOC in those moments though.

Plus I wish she had come up with the concept of the book herself, i'm okay with someone suggesting to think outside the box like a book. I just wish the subject would have been her own idea.

Did anyone catch Alexis on Jimmy Fallon last night?

I feel the same way. Which is why I didn’t dislike Rory’s sl this revival until the very end. Maybe it’s my own feelings about pregnancy&motherhood clouding my judgment, but the final words were such a downer for me. Also, I feel like Rory was robbed off the opportunity to bounce back from this downward spiral. Unlike in s6, where she bounced back beautifully imo (I know a lot of ppl don’t like s6 or later-season Rory, but I really enjoyed watching her get back on track, even if she ended up catching up with her studies faster than is realistic). I didn’t need her to end the show over the top successful and 100% happy (that kind of endings I find quite off-puting tbh), but I wanted her passion for life, learning and work to reemerge. I can imagine it happened eventually, but it’s not as satisfactory as seeing it happen on screen.

Nah, it's such a nice and optimistic interpretation. Quite refreshing to read. And I agree with you that Logan =/=Christopher. But, at the same time, the Rory/Chrisopher scene and the final Jess/Luke scene made me think the writers really wanted to imply a CLL/LRJ parallel, which I really disliked. Not because of my character and ship preference. I like both CL and LL, as well as both RL and RJ (though single Rory is my preferred Rory ending). But I just find the parallel so forced and unnecessary. Never before the revival did I think there were any CL/RL or LL/RJ similarities, outside of Christopher and Logan having some similar character traits. And why should Rory’s life (or at least romantic life) parallel Lorelai’s is beyond me. So I'm definitely not going to imagine the story repeating itself, though I feel that might have been what the writers wanted us to.

If you don't mind elaborating, which parts felt particularly ooc to you?

Good point about the book. That way they would have still had the nice Jess and Rory/Jess moment they were going for, but would have also allowed Rory to take more initiative with her own writing.

The cheating felt OOC for me, despite realising she is in a point of her life where she's clueless on everything. But despite her kissing other guys in past relationships, well mostly kissing Jess when with Dean/Logan she hasn't done that...
Yes she slept with Dean (but she thought they were divorcing and was caught in the moment) not that I approve but this feels more thought of, it's planned. I didn't think she'd ever do that.

Plus the way she treated that online magazine, the respect she didn't have for the interview, the opportunity or the recline she got and her response. It didn't feel like Rory to speak so rudely..

I get that she lost her mojo or whatever you want to call it, but it didn't feel like Rory.
I'm sure I can think of more things

Plus where was her love of books? Didn't catch one..

Her passion for life and learning will most definitely come back with the birth of her child. I look at her having a child as the beginning of a new, hopeful chapter in her life and that this will be what saves her from the downward spiral. I agree that it'd be nice to see, but that still might happen if we get another season? Perhaps that's what they are hoping and holding out for?

But here's the thing, history won't repeat itself because Rory's story will be completely different from Lorelai's as she's an entirely different person. Sure, there's a familiar parallel, but there's still so much variation to be had in Rory's future SL for me to even consider a direct parallel. Sorry, direct correllations like that don't make sense because too many variables enter into the equation to change the outcome. (sorry, that's my scientific mind's response )

I agree with Karen's wish that it should've been Rory's idea for the book. They still could've had a nice RJ moment without that.

Love me some TBBT!

Alexis seemed in good spirits even after being stuck in traffic...course she wasn't driving so that helps. I love that Fallon has just gotten into GG and he's still stuck at the end of s4.

And, really, if you're with Logan, especially in what's a very fantasyish other-woman scenario (their "Vegas" is basically their fairyland) and his friends and their outlandish, almost magical lifestyle, how easy to regress would it be? How easy would it be to lose perspective hanging out with the Life and Death Brigade and drinking straight scotch a half hour before noon every day?

I think Logan was "regressing," in that relationship, too. I got the sense he was hiding out from his family, his dynasty role, and his wife-to-be by having "Vegas" with his college sweetheart. He's hiding his fiancee's stuff from Rory, or at least, promises he wouldn't leave it anywhere she could see, but I've got to wonder how much of that is also for himself; protecting the illusion, the fantasy.

The new season may have actually made me like Logan a little more.

I wonder how much of any of our reactions to those last words and the pregnancy, itself, are tied directly to how we feel about pregnancy and babies in general.

On first watch, I saw Lorelai's fearful expression as more about her, and her flashing back to her specifically less than fun experience with pregnancy, more than anything about Rory's pregnancy or Rory's actual circumstances. But, that's because I was like, "It's a baby! There's going to be a baby!" Rory'd be a good mom.

Babette and Morey need a cat and lawn gnomes, not a kid. Kirk and Lulu need a pig. Michel should probably just have some new chowchow puppies. Taylor... Taylor has a son, doesn't he? That's scary. But, Rory'd step up to motherhood. And, who wouldn't want a grandma like Lorelai? Granddad Luke?

I'm not delusional to the point of Jackson's four in four, but I like kids. I was raised by a single mother. I work with kids. I can't have kids, but I've moved in nieces and nephews. You seriously date someone with kids, you're also raising their kids. So, I probably mythologize it a bit, in a different direction from the fans who feel the pregnancy or kid will hold her up or derail her life and career.

I think, handling it with as minimal information as they did, it really brings out our reactions the best. Our reactions become huge. We've got to fill in all the blanks.
