It’s a trope that really needs to cease or at least be improved upon because it is so unhealthy as it is. And I’m not immune to it, either. I’ve had crushes on the bad boy characters in other shows but in retrospect I see how problematic those storylines and characters were.

I agree with the reddit post and the article was excellent.

Makes one wonder if ASP had a thing for bad boys?

Another series with a bad boy was My So Called Life.

Honestly, I don’t mind the bad boy trope so long as it doesn’t cross a line. I find the fake nice guys to be more destructive. For example, Bryan Krakow. My issue with Jess is that he was rude and obnoxious. I really don’t know what’s do great about him.

My problem with that trope is when it crosses that line but doesn't acknowledge it. When the bad boy yells and degrades and forces their will on their partner without their consent and writers portray this as "romantic" and make the person a viable option for the hero/heroine boils me senseless. I also agree with your statement about fake nice guys being bad but I think they hold equal weight with the aforementioned. Both guys are being abusive and destructive.

Hi!
I really disliked Jess, even after he matured.
He is a bad boy that has a growth, but I don't think he is that interesting or has many layers. And I don't see him with Rory at all at this point.

All in all, IA that he crossed a line but didnt' acknowledge it.

Hi there! And welcome. I liked his character in relation to Luke but I HATED him with Rory. I've kinda gotten to the point where I just advance over their scenes in the episodes because they don't do a thing for me.

I know, he was barely in the 3 seasons he was in. Definitely not enough to make me feel like he's the be all and end all in terms of Rory. He was just a jerk most of that time, anyway.

Why do women love jerks?! "Because we see past the bravado and can see into their souls and know that they're hurting." That's nice and all but it doesn't mean they're your soulmate. Soulmates RESPECT you.

I think people misconstrue passion and someone who is a jerk. But, I hAve also seen a lot of misandry in ships too. Where they have these respectful men with women that tear them down emotionally. I like angst, but there is a difference between that and just being a jerk to your partner.
