I LOVE that scene! Them talking about how breaking up is not for them is beautiful. Especially how Rory can never break up with him, and how it always takes Dean all of his energy and courage to break up with her.

So in a way, it's SO true and eerie, because it's how the series will play out for them.

Breaking up is not for them.

well, its my theory too and Im sticking to it

and its truth, he was always the one calling the quits. made him look like the bad guy when he was anything but. OK, the first break-up was kinda weird but the second and third one? her fault

I often felt as though Rory always got scared at the thought of loosing him but when she got him and he gave all he had she kinda settle into it as though thinking what he gave was enough and she didint really need to try that hard. and especially later it was so OOC it made me really angry with the writers

Funny, I read a fic where Dean overhears Rory talking to Lorelai about how HE was always the one breaking up with her, and Dean sort of like sneers, "well, of course that's how SHE would remember it but that's not the whole truth." Hee. Such a great fic.

So yeah, it would seem like he's the one always walking away, when all he was doing was stepping up because she never was able to do it. Maybe that last time she didn't want to break up, but Dean wasn't going to settle.

Rory was always terrified of losing Dean.

I agree there, the writers changed everything in S5, it was insane that after spending all of S4 pining for him she wouldn't be more appreciative of the situation, but also understand where he was coming from. She sort of forgot Dean had his own life too, and feelings and emotions, etc.

The writers had a difficult job to do, but I wish they would've found another way, a way true to the characters and their relationship to end things between them. Not that it matters now, since they're together and happy off-screen.

yeah, I read it like 2 weeks ago. it was awesome but rather heartbreaking in a way too

Jared was going for SPN, wasnt he? the break up was bad enough but his last scene was such a slap to the face to his character and the fans :angry: I think they started soemthing they didnt know how to finish and so they just ignored it. all of it. and that is just a shame cause these two lovlies are the reason I started to watch the show in the first place

Yeah they always could have ended it on a better note. RD would have probably broken up still with the JPad SPN movie but not doing character assassination either.

Meh yeah Dean always did take the first step breaking up

but as you all said, Rory's fear of losing him factored into that.

I hate when Dean is criticized as the bad guy for their last two break-ups when he was basically forced to both times by Rory. I do think they both handled the ILY issue immaturely, but they were 16.

Exactly. Plus I don't think he broke up with her because she was scared, he just thought she didn't love him, which was what really hurt him.

In the S1 finale she sort of hints that she does love him when she rants over the troubadour, so he goes to Chilton and she's forced to say it out loud when Dean sees her with Tristan.

The break-up could've been done a million different ways better, without hurting Dean's character so badly, and the last scene with Luke, even more so!

The first time they broke up over saying ILY was just sloppy it proved how they were still young in a relationship. Dean thought it was a one way road with the love though I don't blame him. As for the second break up..it just sounds like Dean is getting the blame because of RJ and shipper reasons. Rory or Jess should have taken some kind of step long before but it was a game going on between them and Dean wanted out.

I agree.

Plus, the second time around, Rory had cheated on Dean already, only Dean didn't know it. He did know, however, what was painfully obvious to everyone, that Rory wanted to be with Jess, if Rory wasn't brave enough to break up with Dean, that's no reason to blame him for sticking up for himself -- especially when nobody else was going to. Well, Lorelai did, so yay for Lorelai there.

In S6 Rory did what she should have done in S2. She told Jess (she should have done it before he kissed her, leading him on was unfair, imo) that she loved Logan. And that was the end of that, but when it came to Dean, she was always tip toeing around the issue instead of coming out with the truth.

It was SO unfair to Dean. To have your gf cheating, going around your back all the time, lying to your face, and then leaving it all up to you to do the breaking up.

AND STILL come out as the "victim", it's entirely ridiculous. But we love you, Dean, and we know the truth.

yeah I know Rory had way more fans then Dean but come on. I'm a fan of both and even Jess to some extent and one of them getting the blame is wrong. Jess should have grown some balls and done something. Rory could have done something. Dean was getting played why did he have to do everything?

Dean, from the start, knowing that Rory listens to Lorelei and they are best friends and he was going anywhere.

Funny when he told Max about the Gilmore-isms about what Rory and Lorelei do that other people don't.
