Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels Discussion

Geez, long title or what?

Car trouble strands Jess in Stars Hollow; Jess walks away from Rory over and over again, then makes a startling confession; at a charity dinner, Emily asks Lorelai and Jason to pretend to be lovey-dovey.

I saw the title for this one yesterday on GG.org and I was like, "wha?" I don't know... seems long and irrelevant to anything, but you know how that goes.

Anyways, I'm not spoiled but I hear this will be a great one so I'm so excited! I'd be excited regardless though

Lots of Love!

This is definitely the longest episode title in GG history. And one of the most random/cryptic. I wonder if there are any other TV shows that have had longer titles...

The previews from last week have me eagerly anticipating Rory laying the "mean Rory" on Jess.

I'm excited, especially the Luke and JJ stuff.

Lorelai and Digger (Chris Eigeman) "pretend" to be on a date together for her parents (yes, really) on Gilmore Girls (WB, 7pm). Yes, Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) is in this episode, but not as much as you might think from the commercials. It's an episode that's really much more about Luke. His sister Liz (as played by Kathleen Wilhoite) is still around and this time she brings her new boyfriend (Michael DeLuise) along. Episode was written by Amy Sherman-Palladino and is another good one (I had a chance to preview it). There's yet another Stars Hollow festival and (of course) which is always fun. I think this is the last we see of Jess for a while; *edited for spoilers* The episode title for tonight's episode is "Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels." Whoa.
She had the same reaction to the title.

Java Junkies, trust those of us who are spoiled, tape tonight's episode. Some rewatchable scenes, believe us.

Thanks for that article, Alexis. This episode reminds me of the dance marathon one because a lot of critics have previewed this one too. Remember how we basically knew every scene and line of that one before it aired?

A+

Awesome job, Amy. I'm very, very pleased.

The Java Junkiness is just... ah! It makes me so happy! Lorelai flirting with Luke, and him not even noticing... Next week looks awesome.

I'll be back with more comments after I watch it again with the closed captioning. I like to catch little jokes that I missed the first time.

Amy's best effort since...early season 3, maybe since LHCD.

Tonight made me realize that even though I'm really not a fan of any episode passed RALB, I'm a hard core JJ, no matter what else happens on the show and will continue to watch.

It was actually an enjoyable episode. Just like some of the other "not bad" episodes from the passed two years (aka HL, DEAR, AFM), it was fun to watch and kept my interest, but as far as my obsessive love for the show goes, it ended in early Season 2.

However, I still am madly in love with Lorelai and Luke and love how they have been written in every single episode since the Pilot. I LOVED their scenes in tonight's episode and look forward to some more JJ-ness.

Being a huge Jess fan, all I can say just say…NO. NOT FAIR. Gah! It’s…now I have to go through Jess withdrawal all over again. And the Literati in me is just screaming. *cries*

More coherentness to come later.

wow java junkies rejoice!! everything with luke... just wonderful. i love how she took care of his cut hand. and when she was bandaging him, he was just leering at her with his drunkeness. i wanted him to slip out some confession of love. didnt happen tho. and i loved the scene by the bonfire. so romantic, and i love that he gave her the earrings. and of course, the part with "im the friend and the customer" you know you want to be more, just admit it lorelai!
and now for the real emotion. i feel like a dork, but i am sobbing right now. i feel like someone i love just died i loved the chasing scene. "stop running! stop following!" but the end, that was it for me. i cant believe he just left like that. so fitting but so morose. like a final parting. i think thats why im crying, cause in a way it is like jess is dying, and that was his final parting. i really thought that they would have more than that. the reviews all said that there was a nice parting. that parting was not nice. it was horrible. to think that we dont have anything other than that.
im just gonna go watch it agian and have a bigger sobfest.

Wow.

That was so much better than what I expected.

The JavaJunkie moments were wonderful. DrunkLuke!?! Who would've thought.

I loved the Luke/Liz scenes. She seems flakey, but is getting her life on track. Sounds like she was a wild one for awhile.

Okay, I know there's going to be different opinions here because this is an episode thread, but the Jess stuff was so much better than I thought it would be. I cringed at the spoiler of Jess mouthing off to Luke. But then I heard the dialogue: Not only do the people who fail him have to live with that, but they have to live with his disappointment. There was so much vulnerability in it. Only wish they would've showed up more of how Jess was going to be fine, instead of just telling us that. I guess that's what we were supposed to gather with him telling Rory that?
I'll go talk about this more on the Dodger/Lit threads.

Gotta say, the actor who played TJ: Bad. Just really bad. His scene with Luke in the diner. He would only act when he had lines.

This episode blew me away. Far and away the best ep of the season. I just... Amy is back! Praise the TV deities.

I loved the teaser. It was cute, and it tied in with the rest of the show, for once. Eating on the oven was adorable. Hee, sometimes I feel like sticking my head in the oven because of the cold.

Every single Kirk moment was perfect. "I'm in the southwest corner, Kirk!" "Then where the hell am I?"

I loved that Luke got called "Butch" again. Yay for recalling old moments. (And Luke has a Be Happy vest! BWAH!)

Lorelai: "He's definitely one of the good ones... maybe the good one." Okay, yes. Thank you. My little JJ heart swooned with happiness.

I wanted to kill Jess during his tirade to Luke about fixing things. I liked Jess's character and the dynamic he brings to the show, but I just... dude, freakin' ouch. However, the ensuing JJ scene was fantabulous.

Yay for Rory chewing Jess out. Sort of. Anyway, I liked their dodging each other and then their chasing game, although Rory's running was, uh, well... anyway, Jess clearly could have caught her easily. Still, the parting line was good and the la-las were perfect.

I liked Liz/T.J./Luke. Their scenes were fantastic, and while T.J. was certainly weird, I think that he and Liz were well-written for each other.

The charity dinner was great! Jason and his father, and Emily and Richard's reaction to Rory. Tee-hee. The Lorelai/Emily banter was so on.

Finally, I really, really liked the theme running through the show - Luke fixing things. The show has finally come back to what it does best: family relationships.

I felt completely satisfied at the end of this ep. I'll definitely be watching this one again.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand suddenly I'm back. With renewed interest.

I think Milo Ventimiglia brought new life into this floundering show. He had a hard edge that roughed up GG's twee-ness, and I hope they bring him back. Again. Especially after that last parting shot.

We got some amazing insight Jess in that scene with Luke. He hates disappointing those who love him, and so he runs away. And MV just *****ing sells it, every single time. I think with a lesser actor I'd hate the character. But there's vulnerability and confusion lurking in his eyes. He's lost, but he's too proud to admit it.

Great JJ Gods in the sky, thank you! Praise all that is good and holy for those amazing scenes! And at the Firelight Festival! And cute drunk Luke? Wow. I feel like Christmas came...now.

This episode was just right. Perfect balance of drama, storytelling, character development, romance, humor, and quirk. It was amazing. It was like having Seasons 1 and 2 back again.

This better continue. If Jess and Liz are what it takes — do it!

So I now have some issues with Jess. Even last year when I didn't always like him, I didn't have too many problems with him. But after tonight? I definitely do.

Luke gave Jess a home, even if it wasn't Jess' choice at first. Luke gave Jess just a few responsibilities -- to work, to graduate, and to not get into much trouble. Other than that, Luke pretty much trusted Jess and tried to give him a lot of freedom. He was much more reasonable with Jess than most people would have been in his situation. He didn't try to "fix" things, only tried to take care of him as asked.

It just pissed me off that after everything Luke did, Jess yelled at him about trying to fix things for everyone. I don't think talking to Jess about TJ and wanting to talk to Liz about him is a bad thing. Jess was just WAY out of line.

And Jess was pretty rude to Rory. If he wants to leave when she comes in, I can understand that since they ended things pretty awkwardly. But to just rush out of there and glaring at her on the way out? Ugh.
