One would think that the team may have run into a similar challenge with Lorelai’s grumpiest coworker, whom Sherman-Palladino envisioned from the beginning as being black and French. And indeed, Anthony recalled auditioning countless men who tried to put on a French accent. Unsurprisingly, “it just didn’t feel organic.” Then in walked Yanic Truesdale, who had already made a name for himself back in Canada—but was just trying to break into show business in the States.

“He came in and auditioned, and Julie and I looked at each other and went, ‘Hallelujah. This is it,’” Anthony said.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Truesdale recalled the crazy path that led him to Stars Hollow: after a few “kind of brutal” months of trying to secure work, a friend asked him to come to lunch with her and a guy who had been flirting with her—who happened to be an assistant at Creative Artists Agency. Six months later, that assistant had become an agent.

“He called me out of the blue, and said, ‘I just read this breakdown for this part, and I thought of you,’” Truesdale said. He went in for the audition, and four callbacks later, we got the ennui-laden concierge we all know and love.

I mean Michel never actually talked to Paris (?) but he was always at the Dragonfly when she would come over for lunches with Lorelai.

I skipped all the spoilers I could, so I had no idea he was such a big part of the revival! So so happy.
