Sorry for just throwing this in, but I realized this post might be better suited in this thread:

Lorelai is reminding me so much of my upbringing as an immigrant child. The daughter, such hopes, lost, until a replacement is found in a younger sibling or granddaughter. And the son (in-law) is favored, even though he does way less and is super crappy. Who knew? Lorelai Gilmore the WASP/Immigrant child.

And thanks for that instagram video. It was great. I will definitely be following that profile.

Ack! I should clarified. Child of an immigrant. My parents are from India. And, being the second-generation immigrant daughter, first daughter, with a younger brother, who still cute when he doesn't shower or clean his room...at 25 (like I get we're joint-family-system and he's in grad school...but come on, it's astronomy!)...while, I, on the other hand, there are whole tomes of things I've have done wrong.

So, yeah, my rewatch is really making me think of the Lorelai vs. Chris/Lorelai vs. Rory dynamic with Emily and Richard so differently. Like, I know people always said she was rude to her parents, and she kind of was, but that type of eat-your-wheaties-empowered-emotional-abuse and gaslighting, talking back to your parents is honestly just speaking up for yourself, and it gets worse as an adult. I'm almost Lorelai's age during s1. I'm turning 30, next month, and it gets worse as an adult, after you've disappointed your parents. I didn't get pregnant, but I did have to take a leave of absence from school, and changed my major from business to history. So, I get it. She's rude. I'm rude. But, honestly, you're just trying to fight for acknowledgment that you can do something right.

Which doesn't work, when someone new comes along, or, with Christopher, someone to shift focus, and yeah, you can do no right.

Astronomy is cool! I just mentioned that because it's a serious subject, yet, I don' t know.

I feel like I'm alone in that. And at times I'm the disappointed Asian parent, with my family, because of the neglect.

I had to take a break from school, because I just stopped functioning. So I needed to reset.

Lorelai, sounds so weird, but Lorelai's perspective on her parents, and what they think of her, is kind of helping me now. The way she's stubbornly proud of how her life turned out, as she should!

I’m an only child so I do get more pressure put on me in a way? And also being an Asian. All of my cousins are high-achieving...so sometimes I did feel like a failure.

I’m pretty happy with where my life is at rn

my relationship with my own mom is actually probably the closest to the one Rory has with Lorelai cause we’re pretty close and pretty good friends - I would consider my mom to be one of my best friends although she’s definitely more of a mom than a friend to me
