I think he is really proud about Jess as a character, but he is always careful or even sometimes against jess for rory it seems...

Yes and it's very depressing. I feel he wouldn't say things like this if they hadn't dated, but I could be wrong. Matt and Jared are definitely the superior team captains

Or, he just likes to be realistic, since at the moment and since s.3 there hasnt really been any real indication of ASPs writing that they actually do end up togheter... I hope it is that than their dating history atleast!
