Question: What is the cast of Gilmore Girls like,...?

Lauren: ...I have such a nice friendship with Alexis, and we are completely different. Alexis is the girl who plays Rory. She's a very quiet person, she kind of fell into acting. I wanted to be an actor from the time I was in sixth or seventh grade. She, is from a small-ish town in Texas and is having her first years in Los Angeles and doesn't go out a whole lot and, you know, is very kind of, um, not chatty person. And we have such a wonderful working relationship and I feel so thankful, to have become her friend. And I just think it's just an interesting, lesson in, I don't know, how two people who are very different can really work well together and, and um, and balance each other out. Question: You and your TV daughter, Alexis Bledel, have great chemistry onscreen. You must be close pals offscreen, too?

Lauren: I'm so lucky to have Alexis. We're close in a specific kind of way. She's a perfect partner. We really help each other get through those long days. Our birthdays are six months apart exactly so, astrologically speaking, we're opposites. And I think we complement each other in a way that I'm really thankful for.

Question: In this film (The Answer Man) you’re working with Olivia Thirlby and Kat Dennings, who are both up and coming young actresses. When you’re working with girls that age, do you have a sense of mentorship or passing down your knowledge?

Lauren: Mostly the idea of striving to do a good job, but I really relate to them as peers.
It was the same thing when I was working with Alexis [Bledel] on Gilmore Girls, which was her first big job. Lauren: I used to say I went out with Justin Timberlake.

Questioner: Until you got a cease-and-desist letter from his people?
Lauren: No. Oh, I wish. Instead, I’m going to start a feud with Alexis Bledel, my former TV daughter. Ha, that would really upset people who like Gilmore Girls.

Questioner: You’re not all maternal toward her?
Lauren: Ha, no. She does not need me to be a real or fake mother toward her. She’s just a really cool girl. And she really likes doughnuts, so we discuss deep-fat frying.

Question: Watching your mother/daughter adventures on Gilmore Girls. Do you dream of having a daughter of your own?"

Lauren: Sure. I love having kids in my life. And it's not at all the same, but I know a lot of teenagers — more than some moms I know — and I've been really, really lucky to have two amazing kids on my show who I love spending time with. Of course, Alexis [Bledel, who played her daughter on Gilmore Girls] will always be my first.

Question: Is it the chemistry? What is it that makes it work so well between you two?

Lauren: I don't know. I mean that's what people say and that's so flattering and nice. She's just a love. She's just a lovely person. We're very different people. I wonder if that's part of it, if that's part of chemistry. That we're kind of very opposite and we just sort of end up being human see-saw for each other you know. We balance each other out.

Alexis: I went last weekend. She's totally amazing. She sings beautifully, she dances... I was totally wowed.

Question: Is there anything you miss about working on 'Gilmore Girls'?
Alexis: I just had lunch with Lauren Graham [her mother, Lorelai, on the show]. I do miss working with her every day, but we still see each other. I saw her in 'Guys and Dolls' on Broadway, and she's amazing.

Alexis: My favorite episode is the first one, the pilot. I’m not sure why, maybe it makes me sentimental in a way, it was my first acting job, and in it are the first few scenes Lauren and I shot together with seven years of working closely to follow.

"Now, I could watch Lauren Graham read a Paris train schedule all night - in Greek. She is just so.... Marv! Take a cold shower. Umm, now where was? Oh, right. I met her once at a party and she was so much nicer to me than she ever needed to be considering I was all but dribbling and drooling as I tried to tell her how much I liked her work and the show. But putting my unbiased professional hat on here, she was sharp and funny and obviously the person everyone else demurs to when they don't want to speak. Alexis Bledel, who plays her daughter Rory, seems very shy and reticent to speak, but when she did it was obvious she is very dedicated to her craft. It was great seeing the two of them together. Bledel was obviously uncomfortable - actors often swear they are shy and they work best with scripted words, and in truth many are, but every so often Graham would lean over and quietly whisper to her to get her to sit up, smile, etc. She was actually acting like Lorelai would with Rory at some public event . "The first charming moment between them occured at the beginning. LG was talking about her TiVo not being able to understand that it should just record new GG episodes and not all the old ones in syndication (well, first she said she left the tv on all day for her dog to watch while she was at work. And you people wonder why I like her so much!). When she said the TiVo "couldn't" learn to record only the new shows, AB (who was sitting next to her) turned and said "you can teach it to do that, you know?"

LG: Really???
AB: Oh yeah, you just....blah blah blah (I don't have TiVo and have no idea what she was saying, but it was some TiVo instructions).
LG: Oh, lord. I'm never going to be able to do that.
AB: It's not THAT hard! You just...blah blah blah (more TiVo instructions).
LG: *laughing* Seriously, Alexis, it's a miracle I can get it to record anything at all.

"And then the convo ended with AB giving LG this look that said "Ohhhhhhhhhhh boy...I'll come set it up for you later."

Second charming moment: "AB (who is absolutely darling, by the way. She seems like a really young 23. 24? How old is she? She's not snarky or jaded-sounding. She's very self-effacing and bashful almost) was kind of leaning back in her chair. You know...like kids do, lifting the front legs up and bouncing a little? Anyway, she did this a couple of times, and then, without even looking at her, LG reached over and gently patted her leg. Immediately, AB put all four legs of the chair down on the floor."

Third charming moment: "When GG started filming, AB had virtually no acting experience. She said she didn't even know half the time what the terminology meant. So, for example, the director was always hollering at her to "hit your mark!" But AB was thinking, "what IS that??" So while filming scenes together, when AB would miss her mark, LG would kind of reach for her and link arms or hug her or whatever to pull her onto her mark, which she demonstrated there on the panel.
