Well, I just watched the pilot and am going to go ahead and type out my random thoughts here before I forget them. Here goes:

Funny how different things look in the pilot- Stars Hollow, Luke's, Lorelai's house, even the jeep is different.

I like how the pilot doesn't waste time and proceeds immediately into Lorelai's coffee addiction.

I had forgotten how short Lorelai's work skirts were.

Drella and Michel could really duke it out for the title of world's most rude employee. LOL

Lane referring to her parents- as in plural.

Dean!

Manic, clumsy Sookie- I love her!

Lorelai was so skinny here.

Rory to Lorelai- "You're happy. Did you do something ****ty?". Lorelai- "I'm not that happy". Right away we get a look into this different mother/daughter dynamic.

The look on Lorelai's face when she goes to see her parents.

Kelly Bishop and her looks of disdain and disapproval- priceless. I love all scenes at the Gilmore house.

The expression on Lane's face when she's on the back of the hayride. LOL

Lorelai throwing the coffee cup in the foyer trash after Emily told her to put it in the kitchen.

Luke- "red meat can kill you". I'm glad they didn't keep that up with the character cause it was just weird.

Lorelai to Luke, "I had a flagellation to go to".

Well I am not a expert at everything Lorelai and Rory say to each other, I am more an expert in RL scenes or Rory scenes of S5-S6. However, I do know what happens in every episode so I will comment at what I like or dislike. I'll post tommorrow or the day after

God, I love these first scenes!

Lorelai: "You're a regular Jack Kerouac" to which he responds w/ a vacant, quizzical expression. Although, this comedy IS a bit high browed (In the guy's defense, I didn't learn who Jack Kerouac was until an English course at university & that's what inspired me to become a Dylan fan), it's delivered with such perfection it gets a laugh every time. And the subsequent scene w/ him saying he's leaving to which Lorelai quickly responds, "So soon?" Classic!

Got a later start on the episodes than I thought I would but it's so enjoyable watching this first season again!

I watched the pilot last night. It still has the same happy effect on me I love how it starts foreshadowing Luke/Lorelai: we see a woman with hearts in her eyes staring at this really cute guy and we think, "girl, you got it bad". And indeed, she does, only not for the guy yet I love how the girls' coffee addiction is portrayed right from the beginning. And the guy trying to hit on both Lorelai and Rory, only to run like hell when he found out how old Rory was? Priceless
Then the succession of short scenes establishing the dynamics of the show: Lorelai and her extremely clumsy friend Sookie work at an inn and want to open one, Rory and her ridiculously loveable friend Lane are polar opposites in a way and complement each other perfectly. Rory loves school, Lorelai would do anything to help her achieve her dreams. It's all so well done.
And oh, how I love Emily and Richard, as well as their relationship with the girls. They were extremely unlikeable at times, but I don't think I ever doubted how much they loved Lorelai and how hurt they were when she moved away. Such extraordinary performances from Kelly and Edward.
And the end? "Rory, you don't want to grow up to be like your mother." "Sorry. Too late." Awwww

I watched the second season premiere and the second episode. Haha. Lane and Henry. and Luke and Lorelai when he saw her dancing with Max. I didn't like Lorelai and Max too much. and rory and dean when richard was grilling him. That was funny. haha. and then they had a fight and they both stormed off. This is the rory that I love the sweet innocent one. Also, when Lane went to Korea with all the luggage.

Pilot I'll do the second first episode to.
It's funny to see the guys hit on them in the begining and then to find out they were mother and daughter and one was sixteen. Plus Rory ask "you're my new Daddy.."
I also love when Rory gets the skirt and Rory saying "I'm going to be in a Britney Spears video." I still have a soft spot for Brit, and Sookie still doing that dance while the food was burning.
It was funny how the lady didn't understand bank job on the phone.
I found it funny Lane's way of dressing on her way to school, and intresting how Ms. Kim hated Rory when she seemed to sort of approve of her in other episodes. I also liked when the kids were curious what Rory was writing when it was the assignment lol.
I also like RD first meeting so cute they remind of me and my first boyfriend. Dean's was impressed by her reading, and he did know alot of the references. I know they tried to dumb him down when Jess came but when you watch the pilot you see he does have intelligence.
Lorelai's parents you know things are tense she only comes there, when she has to and Richard was quick to assume she needed money. It's intresting how the Gilmore house always looks intimitatding when after episodes it has a more homey feel.
Rory thinking of quitting school over a guy the begining that Rory will make some bad decisions where guys are concerned. I'm glad she decided to go to Chilton in the end.
I love the end and Rory's line. "To Late..."

Good that a few of us were able to watch it this week! I really do love the pilot now. When I first watched it I didn't really know what to think about the show but after getting to know the characters going back and seeing all of their relationships develop, especially the beginning awkward estrangement between Emily/Richard/Lorelai and Rory's awkwardness around Dean at first (gotta love the rambling! ), you just fall in love with them all over again!

Love Lorelai's comment about pulling a bank job! I say stuff like that all the time talking to people over the phone & when people buy it, it's funny, but when they don't it's the most uncomfortable conversation. lol Love how they light Lorelai's face at the end of that scene & segue into the song before she visits her parents to ask for $$. I really was so taken back by how beautiful Lauren Graham was by that scene alone.

Love Patty's introduction, "fingers in the air, not in the nose." lol

Aww, Lorelai really wants the best for her daughter and doesn't want to see her go down the same road as herself and not live up to her potential.

Sookie: "you can take it out of my paycheck followed by, "I can't afford a new stove, those things are expensive!" Aww, Sookie! Melissa was so good in this role!

Yay, the first family Friday night dinner! Oy, Emily & her snarky little comments, she just can't resist putting her 2 cents in.

"And pie"...love that line! lol That scene in the kitchen between Emily/Lorelai was so good! So much backstory explained & established in one scene and they played it to perfection. You could see both of them so hurt by each other's decisions and you understand both of their positions and why they have been so estranged.

Love how they bookended the pilot in Luke's Diner & the little looks they both exchanged each other. You knew Luke & Lorelai were endgame right there IMO.

"Coffee, in a vat" Classic! That's a line I use to this day.

Hmm, I'll watch the 2nd episode later tonight & comment and then will probably have time to watch the 2nd & 3rd epis tomorrow as well before work. God, I love this show so much, I'm glad I'm rewatching it!

You make a very good point! They did really dumb his character down when Jess came along. I liked Dean for Rory, he was good to her...in the beginning at least. But damn, it's so funny seeing Jared that young! I'm so used to seeing him in Supernatural now it's like going back in a time machine! lol

Yes, yes! I grew to really love the dynamic between the generations. Sometimes it was hard to put up with Lorelai's indignant treatment toward her parents, but they are a bit trying so I don't blame her entirely! And I thought Kelly & Richard did such superb jobs with their roles as you've said, Caro.
