It doesn't mean less money for all. It only means less money for the studios. That's the reason for the strike.

Writers get practically nothing from DVDs, I think it's less than a penny. Actors get zilch.

When Internet downloads replace DVDs, only the studios/networks will make any money at all - unless the strike succeeds in getting a better deal.

I heard they get 4 cents per DVD sale and what 8, which doesn't sound like much but it adds up.

All I was pointing out is the flow on affect, no new scripted TV shows could lead to less DVD revenue and less money for all.

ITA they need a better deal with DL sales set to explode in the next few years.

That's pretty bad. I also think it's bad that they don't get any cut from episodes being online either.

Thanks for all the news and artcles guys

Updated the title

Amy joined the east coast picket line this morning:

Quote:
Screenwriters Picket as Strike Begins

The New York Times,
November 5, 2007
By DAVID CARR and MICHAEL CIEPLY

Hollywood writers moved to the picket lines this morning, as last-minute negotiations between the writers’ unions and producers failed to avert a strike over payments from producers for so-called new media, among other issues.

About 75 members of Writers Guild East set up a picket at Rockefeller Center, just above the fabled ice rink. Picketers chanted: “No money? No downloads. No downloads? No peace.”
.......

“I can barely switch on a computer, but we all know what is at stake here," said Amy Sherman-Palladino, a writer who is working on a “Jezebel James,” her new Fox series with Parker Posey, and was the co-creator of “Gilmore Girls. “We are taking a stand for the next 20 years, and what we do now is going to define the new business model going forward.”

Just then, the chant switched to “No money, no funny,” a reminder that many of the people on the picket line on New York make their living writing for the various talk/comedy shows.

Ms. Sherman-Palladino continued, “I was telling my husband” — Daniel Pallidino, her writing partner on the new Fox show and on “Gilmore Girls,” and a fellow picketer — “that we need some new and better chants, but he reminded me: ‘No writing. None.’ ”

Thanks for the WGA strike news, Caf, these past days.
And speaking of the picketing Palladinos, Ausiello says he interviwed them:

Quote:
Speaking of the S-word, I just returned from Strike Central at New York's Rockefeller Central and you're never going to believe who I spotted on the picket line: Team frakkin' Palladino! Good thing I had the foresight to bring a TVGuide.com video crew with me. To see highlights from my interview with AS-P — as well as fellow picketers Tina Fey and Seth Meyers — check back here in a few hours.

^ I was just thinking that I'd want to see ASP on the picket line after reading that she was there. When was the last time we saw or heard anything of Amy?

Thanks Caf and Gjoni!

Ausiello's got the short video with Tina Fey, Seth Myers and Amy up on his TVG page:

Michael Ausiello | TVGuide.com

Could have over dramatized that any more in his blog? And the hug kind of scared me. And the hat.

I'm having phone line issues so can't even think about downloading it, plus the tvguide site doesn't work for me most of the time!

Thanks for the link though Katie

Just a comment that this thread is meant to be unbiased and open for all fans. So I PM'd Karen asking her to remove 'Warning' from the entry in the first post about DS in Private Practice.

I think it's fair for people to post about their opinions - heaven knows, I do. But do others also think the first post should be impartial?

Not saying you should fix your post, Craig.

Just saying that when we collect the news in the first post, I feel that should be an unbiased list of what's happening.

For individual posts in the thread, we all reflect our PoVs. No problem there. And yours was funny.

Maybe I'll change it back?

OT - Julia Louis-Dreyfus was on the picket line, I wonder if any GG stars will be there?
