Love it!

I would watch the movie for LL but it would be pretty worthless without Alexis. My thing is - the point of the movie is to tie loose ends and end things the "right way," or Amy's way. But Amy's ending presumably does not exclude Rory, so it just seems futile for her to make the movie without Alexis. It's another wrong ending, so to speak. Why bother?

Hey maybe they'll make 2-3 movies, not much Rory in the first leading to another to give closure

I agree.

Even a TV movie would have to stand on its own, not merely replace the non-closures we got this year.

Sadly, I don't think we'll ever get real closure. Too much crap happened in these two years, to properly work through and undo it all in just two hours.

Really good point. Amy already said that the last scene of the show would take place between Lorelai and Rory which means the famous last lines we've heard so much (but so little) about would have to be coming from them. Whats the point of keeping the last lines secret for the movie if she was planning on changing the ending and excluding Rory?! That would be stupid. If she was planning on doing that, she would tell us right now. I highly doubt she will rewrite everything and make yet another fake ending just because Alexis.

If there's no Alexis, there's no movie. Simple as that!
She's either in it full time or there's nothing at all!

Rewrite? You think she already started (apart from those last lines - if they exist or not, yeah bitter)?

If she's not a scab, maybe she'll have some free time to think up those lines now:

Writers Set to Strike, Threatening Hollywood
By MICHAEL CIEPLY and BROOKS BARNES

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 1 — Hollywood’s two decades of labor peace shattered Thursday night, as movie and television writers declared they would embark on an industrywide strike for the first time since 1988, when both writers and Teamsters walked out.

The writers’ union said it would inform its members no later than Friday afternoon as to when the strike would begin, according to a person who attended a union gathering Thursday night at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

. . . . .

In 1988, a similar array of writers maintained their strike for five months, though not without severe internal strains and the repeated threat of secessions that ultimately did not occur.

Much about entertainment changed because of the earlier strike. Reality television began to flourish, their cheaper production costs and decent ratings appealing to both broadcast and cable networks. And a booming market in so-called “spec” scripts — presumably fed by work written at home during the walk-out — followed the strike.

How would any strike affect writer/director/showrunners like ASP?

Craig, good question.

Showrunners who are writer-producers, will need to dust off their tightrope skills, i guess. Here's what the New York Times had about them today:

Quote:
With Resolution Unlikely, Writers Guild Sets Strike for Monday
By MICHAEL CIEPLY and BROOKS BARNES
The New York Times, November 3, 2007

.........On Friday, companies and writers alike planned for the coming confrontation. In New York, the writer-producers who run East Coast television productions like “All My Children,” the long-running ABC soap opera, and “Gossip Girl,” a CW show produced by Warner Brothers, were asked to attend a 4 p.m. meeting at the guild’s headquarters.

Those so-called showrunners, the thousand or so people who share both writing and managerial duties on television shows, have already been squeezed by conflicting demands from guild leaders and company employers. The guilds have strongly urged them not to cross picket lines to perform their managerial duties. But producers have pointed out that individual employment contracts require writer-producers to report for work, even if they withhold their writing services.

John Bowman, who heads the writers’ negotiating team, has decided to halt all of his work on the coming TBS series “Frank TV,” of which he is an executive producer. “I am not doing it, and I can be legally fired,” he said.........

Thanks for that.

On this weeks TV Guide Podcast they talked about it quite a bit, it was an ongoing topic (the strike) for most of the 45 minutes which is no surprise given their jobs. but they made a god point, who is going to police this. I mean if they have a script where is the line between an ad-lib or a re-write?

I guess it will come down to personal feelings for each person.

I just hope we don't end up with more crap reality shows.

I also asked else where what impact this might have on Lauren getting a new show, or possible GS role for a few eps on an existing show.

Interesting times ahead, I can see a number of shows by seasons end not having their usual 22 eps for this season DVD sets. Which ironical is what this is all about, less DVD sales equals less money for all!
