how long should we keep each thread going? until 300 posts because that might take quite a few months

What do you think?

I'm also sure she would've gone to College. She'd probably tried to make it Harvard - not Yale - but that would've been her way to freedom. Away from the mansion. And she was the best of her class.
I think definitely college. Remember the longing look she gave the photo of the best girl of what would've been her graduation year when she goes to Harvard with Rory?

I also agree that there were good times when she was a child. I think otherwise she wouldn't love them like she does.

Nice thought that Rory drove her away and back again.

I'm not saying she wouldn't have gone to college, (I'm sure she wanted to)... just that she would have definitely wanted her independence, as well as getting "out" of that house and she still would've had inner conflicts about any sort of debt she had to her parents. I don't think she would have been enthusiastic about the "resources" her parents could give her because that was part of her independent personality.

I definetly agree with this it's what i was trying to say, I do think she might have done her own path after college but I definetly think she would have gone

I think without getting pregnant she wouldn't have seen it as a debt to her parents if they'd paid for her college. I'm sure she didn't view her schooling as a debt either - at least she never tried to repay her schooling.

Getting pregnant made her grow up fast. College was paid by the parents in her social circle, so I guess she would've viewed it as normal and more that her parents should be lucky she'd fulfill another plan (though as I said, she might've gone to Harvard, not Yale).

I agree as she told Chris in Dear Richard and Emily that she was going to college, she might have gone Europe but it shows that she didn't view schooling as being in debt to her parents. I don't think she thought of that until after she got pregnant

Possibly, but I guess you never know for sure.

But back on the topic of the Pilot... Did anyone else notice slightly more of an "attitude" from Rory in the first episode compared to the rest in season 1? Her demeanor came off as a little different in this episode, especially in her interactions with Lorelai. I know there was obvious tension between her and Lorelai with the whole leaving school/Dean, but she still seemed a little more harsh than usual.

I never really noticed that its a good observation maybe because Rory and Lorelai didn't fight much so it took awhile for Rory to get that mad at Lor

Hmm - haven't thought about that either. Hard to say, because of the Dean thing. They didn't talk in the beginning of ep 10 because of the fight in 9 as well. And she ran away at the end of the season - so sometimes it was there I guess. But as I said I haven't really thought about it - this is just what came to my mind spontaneously.

I had never thought about that either. I think overall though Rory might have had more attitude in season one than in season two.

she was more confident in season 1 and in season 2 she started to care what people...*ahem*...Jess...thought of her.

Yeah she did have more attitude when Jess came along like in A Tisket a Tasket and the ones after car crash in a risk she had alot of attitude when Lorelai criticized Jess

I agree w/ scott_family that S1 Rory was a lot more confident. She was goal-oriented, driven and beautifully geeky. S1 Rory, as presented in the Pilot, was going to be facing some big challenges: a new school with kids she didn't know, Chilton's advanced education (which became the first time Rory was ever truly challenged academically) and Dean. Watching her conquer every of those challenges, one by one, day after day, was exhilarating.

Rory was a shy, bookworm with two best friends, her mom and Lane. We see she is incredibly smart, funny, sarcastic and maybe too much of a good student to get along with the "cool kids." Not even Lane, her smart and witty BFF, shared Rory's academic excitement.

Pilot Rory was really feisty. Mocking that guy at Luke's by asking him "are you my new daddy?" (hee! ) and her snappy reply to Mrs. Kim about how a girl was glowing a little when Mrs. Kim asked if there was anything new at school. That was pretty sassy for Rory.

I think those scenes established a directness Rory lost later on by becoming too self-aware, doubting her every move. Also, her decision to skip Chilton was dramatic and so was her argument with Lorelai about it. Knowing what we know now about Rory's amazing aspirations, it was a Big Deal.

Rory also could be painfully shy. Watching Lorelai trying to get Rory to step out of her comfort zone to explore the world not only through books and movies, but through actual experiences, was one of the delightful pleasures of S1 for me. That incredible mother/daughter dynamic was, oh boy I'm going to get really cheesy, but it was inspiring. That unwavering support and love every step of the way was something else.
