Episode Discussion: Driving Miss Gilmore...

Did I miss a thread?

Logan comes home from the hospital and is cared for by an overprotective Rory; Liz has big news for Luke; Emily has LASIK eye surgery, so Lorelai has to serve as her chauffeur; Rory is upset by a statement Logan's dad made about her in an interview in the Wall Street Journal; Jackson discovers that former employees planted marijuana in one of his fields, and he and Sookie try to dispose of it.

Thanks for starting this. I don't have too much to say about the episode, but the scene where Lorelai told Emily that the wedding wasn't going to happen was one of my favorites of the episode, all because of the little moment they had. It was nice that Emily didn't say anything or ask a ton of questions. Just putting her hand on Lorelai's shoulder was enough.

It was also really nice that she and Richard wanted to buy Lorelai and Luke a house. I like that they've really accepted Luke as part of Lorelai's life.

I didn't like the Sookie/Jackson storyline much. It seemed so pointless, and it wasn't that funny.

Paris/Doyle watching Logan was hilarious.

Same here, Roxy. That's how I felt about the episode. And really, what was the point of the Sookie/Jackson storyline?

I agree with EVERYTHING Roxy said. Everything. I thought I missed the boat on Sookie and Jackson. But loved that the Lorelai/Emily thing at the realtors.

And happy that we got Troubadour--and a talking part too! hehe.

I was extremely disappointed in the episode though--especially after noticing it was written by ASP and DP.

I don't even know if I want to re-watch the episode. Hmph.

You can discuss the promo, but you can't hint about what it does or does not give away.

I don't know that I'm really disappointed in the episode, but maybe I just had no expectations. I was sort of bored most of it though. I liked a lot of the scenes, but I don't feel like very much happened to advance the storyline, with the exception of the Lorelai/Emily scene. I guess that is sort of disappointing, considering that it's the second-to-last episode of the season. Hopefully the finale will tie things together more.

I haven't seen it yet but have to watch it a couple of time so I can do the transcript, damn it!

I'm not jumping for joy to see it.

I have seen the promo and IMO most GG fans are smart ...

Part of the problem this season is the eps that go no where. Why was Lorelai not wanting to see Luke? Last ep L&L were pretty happy after the party, Anna wanted Luke to marry and not be just engaged so what happened?

Well that's why I was disappointed...it didn't really lead anywhere considering we're only one episode from the end of the season.

Now I know it's called "Gilmore Girls." But perhaps the biggest storyline of the season--because let's face it, I have not seen Rory and Logan go anywhere--is the Luke and Lorelai wedding/engagement idea. We've spent a year waiting for it. And we only get one L/L scene and they aren't even in the same room!? What's up with that? This is the second time this sort of thing has happened this year. Luke is supposed to be important to Lorelai and I know he deserves a punch and I really wish TJ would have punched him--I almost threw my pillow at him when he was giving TJ relationship advice.

I guess it was more frustrating than disappointing.

Hmph...I need to find a happier GG episode with Lorelai and Rory banter, Luke and Lorelai happiness/banter and Troubadour!

I agree that this epi didn't seem to advance the plot too much. It just sort of restated old stuff and dug L/L deeper into the pit that is their relationship. I was kind of hopeful while Luke was talking with TJ too because I thought that he might have an epiphany and realize, "Duh! I've been an idiot the past few months and am totally screwing up my relationship with Lorelai!" But it was not to be.

I thought the Emily/Lorelai scenes were delightful though. Emily looked evil in the back of that car. Maybe it was the sunglasses or the lighting but something about her in the back of that car reminded me of the devil. I liked her bringing up Christopher. She's willing to accept L/L (hence the house) but she's also willing to pounce on this opportunity to have the life she has planned for Lorelai. It's kind of sweet in a wicked sort of way.

As for R/L, it's going as I expected it to go and I don't know whether I'm happy with that or not. I guess I can accept that almost losing a person can put your true feelings in perspective, but it still feels cheap to use this bit of melodrama to sweep the cheating issue under the rug.

I'm looking forward to the finale though. The promo looked juicy.

Wow...what a boring episode so far. I have never been this bored about a GG episode ever. I'm looking forward to the Lorelai/Emily scene, but other than that How can this be the episode before the season finale?

WHAT? ASP and DP wrote this episode.
Wow. It sucked. Sorry, but the storylines, except for our Troubadour and that last scene with Sookie and Jackson meeting up with both Troubie, and the priest and rabbi, just didn't work well for me.

Um, the teaser was good though.

Seriously...I wonder what Emily would have or should have said to Lroelai after a half-hearted pat on the shoulder.

"What? You broke up?" or "What, he decided to leave?"

"Uh, no mom, it just isn't going to happen."
"But why? I want a logical reason here why you aren't getting married. You've been engaged since October...what, did you fight?"
"No."
"Is that daughter of his asking him to marry her?"
"No."
"Did he tell you he's not marrying you?"
"No."
"So what the hell is going on? I knew it. YOU'RE backing off of the wedding. YOU decided you don't want to get married and called of YET another engagemetn. You know Lorelai, I didn't expect you to want to screw up yet ANOTHER relationship, especially with Luke who you've talked abotu for YEARS."
"No, I DO want to get married, mom. This isn't me."

On and on, eventually Emily could snap Loreia out of her depressing "I'm not getting married because subconsciously I know Luke doesnt' want it" and make her get her brains and backbone back and TALK to Luke about what's bugging her. Even though Emily's not the best at relationship issues, I bet she'd know when Lorelai acts just plain stupid. The engagement isn't off. The wedidng plans just haven't been talked about for AGES because Luke's too busy with his kid and Lorelai's not bringing ths subject up. And because men don't often think to talk about things until the women makes them open up...

G-d, what the hell has happened to this show?
Is it just me?

Sadly, it's not just you. But I actually wondered if Emily would say it's Lorelai's fault...because she knows how much Lorelai loves Luke. I think she can just tell. She's always known.

And Lorelai has gone to such great lengths to make sure Emily knows as well.

I have a feeling Emily knew from the start that it's Luke's fault. And yes, it's Luke's fault. We can say that Lorelai never told him how she felt, but he's been blind for way too long. The old Luke would have never gone this long without seeing how Lorelai really feels.

You can't blame Luke for not seeing this coming, in his mid everything is okay, Lorelai's not complaning so it must be okay, us guys are like that some times. For me Lorelai needs to speak up before it's too late.
