I think Luke trusted Jess a little too much. The point of him going to live in Stars Hollow was to straighten him out but Luke just kind of let him do his own thing, which was okay at times, but I think he needed a bit more guidence.

He needed more guidance but Jess never would’ve taken it, he was too hotheaded & damaged.

Talk about a mental double-take… The swinging arms body language, the deep sigh, and settling on the single word greeting… then, finally, just walking off, presuming he’ll follow. I think she might have something there.

Then again, she had brothers, a son, and two grandsons who all had approximately Jess’ teen-years social graces…so she’s had a lifetime of trying to relate to, and be a figure of affection/authority to often monosyllabic, withdrawn, teenage boys.

Luke couldn’t figure out whether or not he was supposed to hug him…
