JavaSex Theory Luke keeps Lorelai in coffee, nothing else. We all know coffee is Lorelai's biggest pleasure. So possibly when she wasn't "gettin any" of Luke's special "coffee," she turned to life's second greatest pleasure...sex. 1. He's her Angel, the giver of coffee.

Fic 1..

Emily Gilmore stormed into Luke's diner with her head held high and a determined look on her face.

"Luke!" She yelled, scanning the diner. He seemed to be nowhere insight, so Emily walked toward another customer.

"You there," she sneered, tapping a young lady on her shoulder, "do you know where the man who runs this establishment is?"

Luke stepped out from the storage room cautiously at the sound of Emily's voice, and peaked his head around the corner.

Oh God, it was her. Why was she harassing his customers?

"Mrs. Gilmore?"

"Yes, thats me," she turned around and tried to pinpoint the sound of Luke's voice. Catching his head peering around the corner, she smirked. Eyeing her pray, she began walking toward him.

"I'm sorry, Luke, are you glued to that particular spot on the floor?"

"Uh," Luke finally turned the corner began walking toward her, "no, no. Not glued, just, standing. Sorry, I was just... busy. Packing, unpacking, moving things... you know." Even he was amazed at the power Emily Gilmore had over people. Hell, she'd only said a few things and there he was - blabbing on like an idiot.

"Ah," she sighed, nodding in amusment at his uncomfortableness, "Packing, unpacking... of course. Should have known."

She carefully sat down on a stool, but not before brushing it 'clean' with a napkin.

Luke took a breath and leaned against the counter. Whatever it was that Emily Gilmore wanted - she sure as hell was going to get.

"Is there anything I can help you with?

Emily smiled, "Actually, yes, there is."

Luke frowned. He knew he shouldn't have asked.

"Uh, alright?"

"You know my daughter Lorelai, correct?"

Finally, something he was good at making conversation about. He relaxed his shoulders and smiled a bit, "Yea she comes in here occasionally to feed her coffee addiction."

"Is she here now?" Emily asked, suddenly peering over her shoulders and lowering her voice.

"No," he whispered back, "don't think so."

Emily nodded, "Good."

Luke narrowed his eyebrows and stood up straight. What was this all about? Why was Emily here?

"Luke, I need you to do me an enormus favor. Now, mind you, I rarely ask for anything from anybody - but this means alot to me and my well being as a mother and as the wife of a business man."

Luke nodded, confused, and asked what it was.

"I need you to date my daughter."

Luke froze.

"Date your... um, what? Your who?"

"My daughter, Luke. I need you to ask her out for an evening, can you manage that?"

Luke shook his head in disbelief, "Why would you ask me to ask your daughter out on a date? I mean... what's going on?"

Emily frowned and glanced away, "Digger."

"Excuse me?"

Tired of Luke's inability to read her mind, Emily finally burst.

"Stiles, Luke! Digger Stiles! I was on my way into Richards office to ask him if he wanted lunch when I heard Lorelai's name mentioned. So instead of going in, I just peered through the door to see Digger standing there all cocky and talking on the phone. Then that rodent said something about, 'seeing her Saturday night' and that he was 'excited about their first date'. I was absolutly disgusted!"

Luke, completely blown away by Emily's outbust, just nodded in agreement - afraid to move otherwise.

"I wasn't eavesdropping, I mean, I didn't even want to hear it! God, that incompetent boy can't even shut a door correctly or use a civilized tone when talking on the phone. If he could, then maybe I wouldn't have heard anything and we wouldn't be put in this situation."

She finally stopped for a moment to take a breath, and turned her attention toward Luke, ready for round two.

"And you know Lorelai, when I tried to confront her about it - all she wanted to do was argue with me. I swear, nothing can get through the think skull that girl has. This is Richards business partner for God's sake! Is nothing sacred!?"

Luke, eyes wide, stood frozen in place. How the hell was he going to get out of this one?

This is going to be confusing..

Fic 2..

"Lorelai!"

Lorelai looked up in time to see Sookie rushing into her house screaming her name.

Laughing, "Yeah Sookie, what's up?"

"I have this great idea. Well, it wasn't actually my idea. I was at the doctor's this morning in Hartford for Davey's checkup and I was really bored. So I went to the vending machine and got some coffee. I sat down and spilled the coffee all over this newspaper sitting on the table..."

"Sookie!"

"Oh, right. Well, there was an article about how some bed and breakfast got the community together to help build and landscape it. It cut down on costs of construction and the place got a lot of advertising when the news found out about the community work and I thought it would be really cool if we put out something where all of Stars Hollow can help us with the Inn. It would make the Inn more of a home in Stars Hollow if everyone has some kind of involvement in it."

"You've already started asking people to come help with the Inn, right?"

Looking at the ground, Sookie continued. "Well... Yeah, but I only said we were thinking about it. If you don't like it we don't have to do it but.."

"Sookie, I think that's a great idea! Everyone will feel closer to the Inn. Let's come up with the time and details."

Lorelai and Sookie sat back down at the table and started talking about the details of the community project.

Do you guys think Luke and Lorelai ever finished their conversation at the church after the reverend left?

I mean, Luke looked really happy later when he saw Mrs. Kim and Lorelai looked wistful and was distracted the next day. I wonder that even if they didn't finish their exact conversation, that they may of had some special moment as they were breaking the bells, realizing how much they mean to each other. It had to take at least an hour or so to climb up to the bell tower and dismantle some of the parts in the bells. I wonder what happened between them during that time. And when Lorelai was woken up at 4am.. it didn't seem to take her long to 'wake up' and she didn't appear sleepy, it only took one ring and she reached out for the phone. So my guess is that she just recently had gotten into bed.

And the next day, Lorelai didn't tell Rory that she and Luke broke the bells.. she just dismissed the topic by saying the bells just stopped. She tells Rory everything, so something a bit major had to happen for her not to want to brag to Rory that she broke the bells. Instead Lorelai looked like she was hiding a good secret.

I don't think they did. I think the minister stopped them in their tracks. I bet they did the deed (well, not that deed) (but they should have) in silence and then went their separate ways. I think they were both thinking about 'what if' it had gone farther....

There have been too many conversations in the past that went no where after they hit a certain point.

The main thing is I think it got them both thinking about their true feelings. And maybe, how they need to approach each other next.

Luke has to get rid of Nicole before he can say anything. Lorelai is really thinking about her feelings. I think that's why she isn't sleeping and seems do distracted. I think Jason is just another distraction...keeping her mind off 'married' Luke. The next move is his.

Hmmm...I hadn't even thought about that Kitty. I was so mad that they got interrupted and we didn't get to see anything else that I forgot they still had to break the bells.
I wonder what did happen. Did they just ignore Luke's question and go back to the 'partners in crime' vibe? Did Lorelai bring up Nicole and the not livng together thing again? Or did nothing happen like Cheryl said and they just broke the bells in silence?
Very interesting. Lots of questions. I can't decide what I think happened. Someone should write a fic about what happened or what they were thinking. Who knows if we'll ever find out from the show.

Ok, now I've been reading so much about this over here and TWoP that I have the say this:

Theory about where Lorelai and Luke stand right now in their relationship

I really really really don't think that Luke and Lorelai should get together any time soon. Right now everything they do is fight. And they do make up, but the confidence isn't there.

About Lorelai: yes, she is self-centered. And she might be annoying to some people, but you ever have noticed how often the main star in a series gets annoying? Just because everything is about them and they show you their best and worst side. And maybe they show you even more how unsure they are about everything.
Lorelai does tell Sookie that she thought she was more than coffee-friends with Luke. And actually, if you think about it, Luke would have told Lorelai if he had moved in with Rachel. Or if not, let it drop a bit sooner than he did this time. I mean, he did tell her about his marriage, although it took a while. And they both had a good reaction. Actually, he didn't tell her because he thought it wasn't that big of a deal, because he's not really living with Nicole. And everyone is being so hard at Lorelai for getting mad at him and not telling him about Jason. But actually she probably also thinks it's not that big of a deal. I guess if she tells Luke about a guy, he has to be pretty special.

But even if I understand their povs and like them, I really need to see more bonding (not after-fight bonding, just bonding for the good of it) and some "good actions" from Lorelai before I really want them together.

Right now, I don't think they're secretly in love with each other.
Luke can't be in love with her right now, he doesn't seem infatuated and she isn't making his life any better. Neither is Nicole, for that matter. Of course, he does have feelings, but I guess he's a bit disappointed (at least since Nicole returned) that Lorelai isn't more supportive since she doesn't want him.
Lorelai isn't in love with Luke, she's just used to having him there without a girlfriend. So she's playing the usual game of "not for me, but not for anybody else either". It's bad, yes. But come to think of it. Haven't we all had someone like that? And sometimes that person is someone we end up loving and sometimes it's just a friend who we like to be there for us. But I think till Lorelai finds out about what Luke is for her, she has to try and be there for him. Like she was before Nicole came back, and especially in seasons 1 and 2.

So, I was really annoyed at people just talking bad about their relationship and also because I thought they might be partly right. So now I had to write it all from a perspective of a JJ but being true to what is happening on the show.

I just hope Lorelai does think about the talk in the church and tries to approach Luke and really get to know him. I've read lots of times on this thread posts from people who would love to see Lorelai fall for him while he doesn't know or is too tied to begin a relationship with her. I guess it's because we want to see her care for him like lovers care. Her almost confession in the church was a step forwards, but, like the song says...

Now Lorelai didn't do anything for Max or Lorelai or Jason ever. I want her to do something for Luke.

Isn't it ironic that we're using this thread title right after an episode that is actually about Luke and Lorelai not talking enough?

Nutters: I can totally see where you're coming from. I can buy that take on their relationship, although I do prefer to think that they do *love* each other, I do agree that they aren't at that point of being 'in love'.

I think that because, if they were 'in love', they'd actually have to be talking to each other and know each other well enough to understand one another, where they are not at this point.

But...I do think Luke knows and understands her in little ways, and not the major issues yet. Lorelai on the other hand is not even *close* to being ready for an actual *serious* relationship.

I hope she isn't dating 'lots' until she gets a grasp on the issues she has with trusting men, that being involved with someone seriously doesn't necessarily mean that she has to lose 'herself' in them, that she can depend on a man without it being a 'bad' thing, and her issues of being tied down.

Not to say that all of it is Lorelai, Luke has to be able to express his feelings verbally. That's his major sore point right now.

All this to say, but it doesn't mean that I don't believe they don't belong together. I think both of them are frustrated with themselves and also each other, since each have made assumptions about the other without having discussed it with them.

But I [img]smilies/love.gif[/img] this episode. I really feel that they *are* making progress. Now if ASP just doesn't have them regressing again.

ITA on Nicole and Jason being distractions. Neither of them take them as a 'serious' relationship and I think it's sad that they can make certain commitments with people and not understand that they are *not* really looking for a real relationship with them.

They need to be a little more introspective [img]smilies/tongue.gif[/img] And spend time thinking about what they want and who they want. [img]smilies/sigh.gif[/img]

On what they do for each other

I was taking a look at all the episodes and what they've done for each other. Lorelai has done things for him, but just as a normal friend, not like when Luke built her a chuppah. I'd like to see her do something for him that was totally altruistic, without wanting her to gain him for her by her doing that.

Now what I observed was that Luke always did something manual for her, like fixing things, driving her somewhere... or just let's say logistic things: letting her sleep at his place, help when Rory moved, etc. He actually never offered any sentimental help. Luke's a guy.
Lorelai always helped him in other ways, like trying to give him advice on Jess, Rachel and even Nicole (before they got married). Or scheduling 4 Thanksgiving dinners on a row, helping out in the diner when his uncle died, etc. Except for this last thing, it may seem that those favors weren't altruistic: Lorelai likes knowing about Luke's life and having something to say in it, she likes painting, she likes shopping (Rachel's gift)... and when she gives advice to Luke about relationships, it may not work out, but it's not because of her. She just tries to help Luke with that sentimental side he's not so used to. Lorelai's a woman.

Their relationship is a normal one, with normal friendly chats in the diner or at home, until Nicole comes back. Then it's all upside down. When Nicole came back, Lorelai was mad at him for not telling her (she told him about Max and still he was mad!!!). Now they moved in together and of course she's mad... So I hope the writers do know when this arch is ending, it has to lead to something.
