Cheryl....this made me think of something: you wrote:

"Notice that all through the show Luke was helping Lorelai, doing things for her? Contrast that with Christopher's need for her help. That's the way it is....Chris will always need someone to help him out. Luke stands alone. He is there when you need him and usually in complete control. Maybe, unknowingly, that is what Lorelai likes about Christopher....his need for her. Not love just need....spoiled little boy needs someone to make it all better for him."

Maybe what it is is that Lorelai has never had anyone BUT Luke take care of her...she expects it from him because that IS Luke, he does it freely and enjoys it, but they never SAY anything about that....AND yet in all her other relationships, Lorelai is the nurturer, the wonderwoman, the one who everyone thinks has it together.

Luke is the only one who knows her faults and still loves her, still wants to accept her as is, and help her where needed. Now maybe the issue is that Lorelai will one day verbalize well, 'what do I bring to Luke? why do you even like me?' Yea, she may be thinking, 'sure he what thinks I'm pretty', but maybe Lorelai wonders what does he see in her when he does know her so well....'why do I deserve this great guy?', she may wonder. Maybe she gets comfort from knowing with Chris, he needs her...does Luke need her? She may not know he does...and that may be scary too. Sure, I think Lorelai knows SHE needs Luke...she doesn't say it aloud, but she ALWAYS tries to make up with him. She cannot stand him angry with her...every season she has been the one to try and make up after an argument. But does she know that Luke needs her too? That she is his rock too? I have always felt Lorelai is insecure in that way. She acts like she thinks she is great...but I think that covers her sarcasm. She is actually a little self-deprecating in the delivery of those lines...like "oh I'm hot" but she is really laughing at herself all the time.

Anyways, Cheryl, your post got me thinking about the word need, and all that may entail to this L/L relationship.

lorelai is looking for a man to share a life
chris is looking for a mother to help him race gigi and finish racing him..
pretty good point cheryl and nancyvi
well in my opinion sherry is not that bad:
since the first time we see her sherry was scare of having a baby or been a good mother but she was always thinking well i got chris my support he always going to be there, when i do something wrong he is going to be with me to help me i can count on him BUT for her suprise chris was always working or traveling avoiding his reponsabilities to her and gigi one more time showing us that he is not a family man and that he can't handle it. i think that's why lorelai left him because deep inside she knows that chris can't handle a family that's why she push him away all this years she was waiting for him to change but SUPRISE he is not going to change he's never going to be ready for a family he is almost 40 he just can't do it.
not all people are born to be or have a family, chris just can't.
chris make us look pretty pathetic

This could be that I'm a Bridget Jones freak but did anyone else get the Bridget Jones vibe from the newsroom scene with the computer? Logan as Cleaver IMing Rory as Bridget, only instead of talking about her short skirt, he calls her Ace. Interesting considering I see similarities between Logan and Cleaver, both charming, both playboys, and possibly both dangerous to get involved with (emotionally). Could Marty be Rory's Darcy? I would SO love that, but I doubt it would happen. And at the moment, I'm really liking the Logan/Rory pairing, I just hope they add more depth to his character. He's intriguing for now, but I hope they show more depth to him over time...what does HE think about his priveleged existence? Perhaps he has a Digger view that he hides behind his rebellion.

I really like David Sutcliffe as an actor but wasn't expecting to like the Chris storyline as much as I did. I expected to hate it, but honestly, in this instance, Lorelai is more to blame than Chris (past father issues aside). He asked for some help over the phone and she volunteered her time and didn't TELL HIM she was in a relationship with Luke when she got there, she flirted instead. I'm feeling for Luke.

I liked what Rory said to Chris on principle BUT I find it a tad hypocritical regarding her recent behavior....Didn't she just break up a marriage? But oh, she's keeping Dean happy with sex. Gag me. Seriously.

awww thanks Julian and Sarah. I was inspired by CherylS great post.

I guess we just have to hope that there is a great plan for all of us JJ's and eventually we will get some majorly happy payoff for this torture. Maybe I'm greedy, lol.

I still think that Rory was the most interesting and fun she has been in a loooong time in the last two eppys...her interactions with Lorelai at the Pippi movie, and then on the phone and at the Gilmore's for dinner were wonderful and back to same great Mom/daughter interaction. Happy for that.

I love Kirk...give him his spin off, lol. Michel is terrific too...love the 'and here people have been bitten by poisonois snakes and almost died but very scenically" or something like that, too funny.

I think Lorelai is stilll hanging on to her 'superwoman' image of herself. She is a strong woman and mother and is up to her neck in starting a new business, a new relationship and a daughter growing up.

She isn't 'all in' with Luke. She hasn't dropped her outer defense that she shows the rest of the world. That's why we need Christopher. He is going to get her into so much trouble, make huge waves in her safe little life. Something has to make her see that good old Luke is really her life....her partner. Men come easily to Lorelai, relationships not so easily. She doesn't recognize it when she sees it because its never been right before.

Luke is his own man and has always been there. He's as much a father figure as a lover. Now that he is the lover the rest will have to work itself out. She doesn't see that she brings a lot to Luke. She has always been there for him in every situation....too many to list. But he is so strong and all she sees is what he does for her. She does for other people effortlessly....not recognizing how much she does give.

It all goes back to the way she grew up and the way her parents still treat her. Her love live is so mixed with her relationship with her parents.

L&L fell pretty easily into this relationship....Luke said he's 'all in' but he hasn't said that she is his life, his partner. We haven't gotten to that level with these two. Christopher will bring them to that level.....after much pain. But with pain comes growth.

Great episode. I've only watched once. I always get more the second time.

I liked NMIP on a whole. With the exception of the lack of Emily and Richard I wasn't bored and there was only one time when I wanted to jump into the television and smack a character. Shockingly for me, that character was Lorelai.

Didn't so much like

1. I hated how Lorelai dropped everything to rush to Chritopher's side. She seemed way to eager to help him out. Couldn't she have told him to turn the crib around over the phone? What has he ever done for her? It seems to me Lorelai has this fixation with helping Chris in the hope that he'll become the man she always wanted him to be.

2. No quality LL interaction. And by interaction I mean having a major kiss, but they're so far into the relationship now that the peck at the door was realistic.

LIKED

1. I loved Rory confronting Christopher! Way to see what your mom can't Rory! I actually like the dynamic they seem to be going for this season and that is that Lorelai and Rory know each other better than they know themselves. Rory knows Lorelai is drawn to Chris and that she'll mess things up if given the chance. Lorelai knows Dean isn't good for Rory and that she's making a mistake. And yet each go ahead thinking they are in control of their lives, when in reality they know each other better than themselves.

2. Loved the teaser with the keys. So very Lorelai and so very Luke to complain and yet help her and then worry about her because she leaves her keys in the door.

3. I didn't mind Logan in the is episode. He wasn't doing that creepy leaning thing he did in WITS. I think what I like most about him is that he hasn't developed an all-consuming love for Rory. At this moment she's more curious about him than he is with her. Rory needs that in her life.

4. Emily and Richard, although not in the episode, have totally forgotten about Friday night. I found that amusing.

5. I liked Logan calling Rory Ace. It was kind of condescending, but kind of cute.

6. Paris and Doyle have an interesting relationship. I wouldn't say sparks yet, but mutual admiriation, yes.

7. Sookie's realization that she was pregnant was so Sookie.

8. I like the end when NM and son moved to Luke's only to order iced tea. Nice.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode. Christopher's return wasn't awful. Although I don't like how Lorelai so willing went to him. And what is Christopher's relationship with Sherry? Are they married or just together? My fear is that Lorelai will lay it all on the line to help Chris again. Luke will be alienated and then Sherry will waltz back into Christopher's life and he'll ditch Lorelai again. But that is down the road. For now I enjoyed this episode.

I actually found it worrisome. Emily is SO concerned with etiquette, I'd think she would be on top of cancelling something, and especially something as huge as the Friday Night Dinner. I'm not surprised that Richard wouldn't cancel, but Emily? Is this the beginning of Alzheimer's? It just struck me as being very uncharacteristic.

Who wrote this again? I like how they're aware of continuity. The Deer, Jess mention, etc.

And although they're still showing exterior shots of Durfee, good for the writers getting more in to Yale as Rory does too. (Like how Glen was wearing a Branford sweatshirt. )

It was odd. Separation from Richard notwithstanding, missing the once-a-week opportunity to converse with daughter and granddaughter was out of character. If we don't get an explanation next week it wouldn't surprise me, considering all the occurences that have happened off-screen thus far, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

This is the first time all season I have been overwhelmingly proud of Rory!!

First, she sticks up and takes a risk with Logan... then she goes and tells Chris off... YAY! GO RORY!!!

I like her better in scenes when she isn't with Dean... It's sad too, cause in the beginning of the show I was Dean/Rory forever, you know? And now that they're together.. .I can't stop thinking that they cheated on Lindsay, which is so wrong!
