i mean he didn't want to celebrate to begin with. so Patrick invites him for dinner, even if David thought it's not a date, why call Stevie? also hello, i'd suspect something when someone asked me out for dinner on my birthday, possibly that person likes me.

Yeah, he should've known that something was up. Especially after the conversation he had with Stevie when he stayed at her place.

And on that note, I don't understand why Pat was so willing to have David come stay before the kiss, but after the kiss when they had the dead body, he assumed David wanted to hook up.
