I think it's great that Herbie Hancock won. He's a jazz legend. Speaking of Jazz I am currently digging the new album by the Bad Plus called Prog. There are a young hip jazz tri that is not afraid to cover songs by Rush or Nirvana or tears for fear. I have not gotten around to listening to the new Herbie Hancock album so I probably would have given the album of the year to Josh Ritter or Mavis Staples.

I forgot to mention the following as well. I even enjoyed the new trey Anastasio album. I also can’t forget about the live album from the Mothers of invention.

Next years album of the year should go to the Counting Crows. I doubt they will win but my fingers are crossed. I am also not just saying that because they are my favorite band. The new album is going to be a masterpiece.

I can’t seem to edit my post from work as bare with me as I post another response to this thread. Ryan Adam who in my opinion did not put out his strongest album to date should have gotten an award for hardest working musician. He’s an underrated genius. He writes more songs then any body. He has albums worth of unreleased stuff.

I also just read that the Band got a lifetime achievement award. They are legends and so deserving of that award. If it was not for them the Crows would not be here today. There is a Crows song called if I could give all my love or Richard Manual is dead. It’s a song about finding out that one of your idols Richard Manual the piano player from the band committed suicide.

Believe it or not... Frank Zappa was a close friend of my dad's. I may have met him when I was a babe but I don't remember it.

Is there something wrong with me? I was flipping through the 2008 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and not one of the models did a thing for me. The whole time I was looking at the magazine I kept thinking that none of these girls come close to Shiri in my opinion anyway. I am not a fan of girls with Spray on tans and fake boobs. Not all of them had fake boobs but most of them did. However it did get me thinking that if they ever did a biopic on Danica Patrick (She was featured in the magazine) Shiri would be perfect for that role. What does everyone else think about that?

On a side note I had a dream last night about Mir. Actually it was dream that had me on a school bus heading off to camp and sitting in front of me on the bus was Mir. It was weird because I have not gone to camp since I was an early teen and it’s not even summer time yet plus Mir and I don’t even live in the same state. I wonder what this dream meant? I had a love hate relationship with camp. I never wanted to go to camp however I always had a blast when I was there. Every time I think about camp I am remind of the scene in the end of the world were Kyle talks about the Y pool just before getting into bed with Liz I used to go to the Y camp when I was younger.

The Grammy's this year was the worst thing I've ever seen. But I'm glad my girl won 5 out of 6. Amy Winehouse may be crazy, but she's damn talented.

That's cool!

The Grammys were a snorefest.

I've been MIA lately. My internet had been down for over a week but I'm getting it back Tuesday. I cannot wait. I never realized how hooked I am until I didn't have it for this long. I'm about to go mad.

I got scared when you were not around. I am glad to know you are ok. In reguards to the internet I know the feeling…. I never miss the internet until it’s gone. What’s worse is that my brain plays tricks on me and tells me that there are hot new Shiri updates and I can’t view them. Had I lived closer I could have taken a look at your computer being that is what I do for a living. My mom looked things up in a phone book or a dictionary. She never wanted to embrace the internet now she hooked. If I don’t check in on her she will be glued to her computer for hours. Believe it or not there was life before Computers and Cell phones and TV’S.

I was watching a tiny bit of the Oscar pre show while I killed some time before the golf started. While I was watching the show on E! They showed a segment on shoes. They quickly flashed a bunch of celebrities on the red carpet. One of these celebrities may have been Shiri from the SAG awards. However they only showed the shoes so I am not 100% sure that it’s Shiri. I did pause it and watch it in slow motion and it’s definitely the same shoes she wore to the SAG awards. I could be totally wrong and somebody else could have easily worn the same shoes. If anyone else caught this segment please feel free to chime in.

BTW like always I can’t wait till the day comes that Shiri walks down the red carpet and heads start to turn and she gets all of the attention and then wins an Oscar. And the Oscar goes to....Shiri Appleby. Someday it will happen. I just know that all of her years of hard work and determination will eventually pay off. Go Shiri go.

The Oscars sucked yet another year. It's so predictable. When will the academy give Viggo Mortensen and Johnny Depp what they freaking deserve?

I didn't watch the Oscars this year because I just knew it was going to be boring as hell. But I completely agree with you in giving VM and JD the recognition. They are both wonderful and fantastic actors, hopefully it won't be long before they finally get that award.

I watched the Oscars on and off this year only because nothing else was on. I am actually still bitter that the Counting Crows lost for song of the year with Accidentally in love from Shrek 2 over some unheard of Spanish song from the motorcycle diaries a few years ago. I usually skip the Oscars because it’s a popularity contest and they can be kind of boring. However this year I will give them some props because they gave an award to a big underdog.

The highlight for me this year was seeing the song Falling slowly from the great independent film once win for song of the year. The song was written by Glen Hansard from the great-underrated Irish band the Frames and his Czech girlfriend Marketa Irglova. Amongst all of these big production numbers was this simple acoustic guitar and piano number done by the stars of the film. I believe the film only cost them 100 grand to make. They made the film on a small budget using handy cams. I was a bit ticked off that they started playing the music after Glen gave his short speech. I understand they are pressed for time but that would have been very rude if they did not let Marketa speak. After the commercial break they let her to come back on stage and give a speech. Her speech was kick ass. She dedicated her win to all of the struggling musicians who put everything they got into creating their art. It was very inspirational and made me smile. She had the best speech of the night. You can watch the speech at the following link.

YouTube - Glen Hansard Marketa Irglova Once Oscar acceptance speeches

P.S. In about and hour I am heading to MSG to see Clapton and Winwood. I am so excited.
