"Light Years" Another pilot for Shiri?

Thanks to 'lyric' for the news.
I just wish we'd get beyond just a pilot!

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Meet the CW's young parents
Trio tapped to star in 'Light Years' pilot
By Nellie Andreeva
Jan 12, 2009, 03:00 AM ET

Shiri Appleby, Kristoffer Polaha and Kerr Smith have been tapped to star in the CW's hourlong pilot "Light Years" for CBS Par and director Gary Fleder.

The Liz Tigelaar-penned dramedy centers on foster kid Lux (Brittany Robertson) who, on her 16th birthday, tracks down her slacker biological father, bar owner Nick "Baze" Basile (Polaha), and her mother, morning radio host Cate Campbell (Appleby), who haven't spoken since high school when their one-night stand resulted in pregnancy.

Smith plays Ryan, Campbell's boyfriend and co-host on the show.

This is the first mother role for Appleby, who just turned 30 and mostly has played ingenues or vixens. Her age difference with Robertson is a little more than 11 years. Polaha is 31.

Like its predecessor the WB, the CW tends to go unrealistically young in the motherly department. Lauren Graham was barely 33 when she was cast as the mom of a teenage daughter in "Gilmore Girls," 14 1/2-years older than screen daughter Alexis Bledel.

The project marks a WB reunion for Appleby and Smith, who co-starred on the former network's "Roswell" and "Dawson's Creek," respectively.

Appleby, who recently starred in the USA Network's "To Love & Die," is repped by ICM and manager John Carrabino.

Polaha, who co-starred on the CW/MRC drama "Valentine," is repped by Endeavor. Smith, next seen in "My Bloody Valentine 3-D," is with Gersh and Thruline.

Meet the CW's very young parents

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Shiri Appleby, who has mostly played ingenues or vixens, is taking on her first mother role for the CW's hourlong pilot "Light Years."

The comedy-drama centers on a 16-year-old foster kid (Brittany Robertson) who tracks down her slacker biological father (Kristoffer Polaha), and her mother (Appleby), who haven't spoken since high school when their one-night stand resulted in pregnancy.

Appleby, who turned 30 last month, is just over 11 years older than Robertson. Polaha is 31.

Like its predecessor network the WB, the CW tends to go unrealistically young in the motherly department. Lauren Graham was barely 33 when she was cast as the mom of a teenage daughter in "Gilmore Girls," 14-1/2-years older than screen daughter Alexis Bledel.

Appleby previously co-starred on the WB's "Roswell." Polaha recently co-starred on the short-lived CW drama "Valentine."

Yeah, Lulu, Shiri as mom to sixteen year-old-girl doesn't really sound believable. And I don't think this show will fly - doesn't sound like it's anything special.

Believable or not if it means I get to see Shiri on TV every week you know I will be tuning in. That’s just weird seeing Shiri playing a mom. While I felt it worked on Fear Itself because the kid was little but if the kid is 16 then it’s going to feel weird. That would make Shiri a mom at 14.

I can only say I've always dislike Kerr Smith. I can't even stand him. Sorry...

Shiri, I don´t care where she works in. I'll always follow.

All in all, amazing news!

I think I read on IMDB that people thought that if Katie Holmes did not land that role on DC that Shiri could have easily played that role. They thought that they looked alike or both had that girl next door look.

All I want is for Shiri to have a hit show. I am starting to get tired of getting news of a new show and then being let down when it does not air or gets cancelled or being in it’s final year. Nobody is more deserving of a hit show then Shiri. Her time is now.

Here is a bit from a new interview with Kerr Smith

Kerr Smith Interview, My Bloody Valentine 3-D - MoviesOnline

MoviesOnline: Is there another movie unreleased yet?

Kerr: No film on the docket as of now but I do leave for Vancouver tomorrow morning to shoot a pilot for The CW, called "Light Years." It's an hour-long dramady, I guess is how you would classify it.

MoviesOnline: Vancouver has been having its worst winter in decades.

Kerr: They got a lot of snow. I heard that.

MoviesOnline: Can you talk a bit more about the pilot? Who do you play?

Kerr: I play a character called Ryan Scott and I'm doing it with Shiri Appleby (of the TV show "Roswell"). I have to get that right by tomorrow. We have a radio show and it's all about bantering about politics, any subject we can. But, behind the scenes, we're dating. In the pilot, I ask her to marry me. In the process of that, she has a child that shows up out of nowhere that she gave away back in high school and this child is now 15 years old.

MoviesOnline: It's every dude's nightmare.

Kerr: I know. It is. And within lies the comedy and the father of the child is this degenerate kind of guy, shows up out of nowhere as well and calls up the radio show and says, “Hey, look, we've got a kid” and he comes in and I've just asked her to marry me and there's all this chaos. In the end, we do get married and the three of us decide to raise this child. Me, the weirdo and Shiri.

MoviesOnline: So you are all "Light Years" apart?

Kerr: The child's, the girl's name is Lux and Lux means light. I don't know who plays her. This just happened a few days ago and I haven't done all my homework yet.
