Akira film released in 1988 is such a classic.
Directed by Katsuhiro Otomo Plot: 2019. 31 years after being destroyed during World War 3, Tokyo (now 'Neo-Tokyo') has been rebuilt and is a thriving metropolis. Shotaro Kaneda is the leader of a biker gang. His friend Tetsuo is injured in an accident and taken to a top-secret government facility. He develops telekinetic powers but decides to use them for evil rather than good. He has the same powers as Akira, the force that destroyed Tokyo in 1988, and now it appears that history will repeat itself. Live-action adaptation project by WB is currently on hold. __________________

thanks.
 i watched this movie years ago. need to rewatch this. see what else they predicted other than Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.__________________

the movie is brilliant. it makes you question the world we're in. it's not the most cheerful movie to watch in 2020

nope
in fact, i don't want to watch any movie/tv with a dystopian storyline where the world is sh--. normally i find that fascinating but not in 2020.__________________

"Akira" is currently on Hulu & I'll watch it sometime in the upcoming weeks or months. I'm glad that you enjoyed this film.

You mean that they predicted that Tokyo would get these Olympics or that they would happen a year later than originally scheduled?
I did checkout Akira volume 1 today at a library & am about to brgin reading it. __________________

in the story, Tokyo is to host the Olympics in 2020 and u see graffiti in the city saying "cancel the Olympics" or somewhere along those lines.
the film starts in the year 2019. i don't recall if the Olympics actually happened in the story or any mention of it. nice! enjoy the manga! i didn't read it though. must be good judging by the film they made. __________________
