| More news about the film THE PRESENCE: Source: Tom Rice Day One: We rolled into the first day of shooting just after lunch and scheduled a light day. Crew needed half a day to continue load in, and Shane and Mira are the only 2 actors on location so far. We cast Tony Curran as the Man in Black, and we're pretty sure we have Justin Kirk on board to play the Man (the Woman's fiance). I don't know why, but none of the characters have actual names. Which brings me the point where you may be interested in what the film is actually about: The film opens on a being (Shane West) sitting alone in an isolated cabin. We find out soon enough that he is a ghost. Soon after, a woman enters (Mira Sorvino). She has come to this cabin from her past to escape life for a bit and work on a grad school thesis (i.e. she's intelligent). The ghost, happy to have company after years of confinement, becomes infatuated with her. Unbeknownst to her, he follows her around, watching her do everything. There's a sense of darkness to him, and we are unsure whether or not he is harmless. Needless to say, she has no idea she's not alone. PICTURE:  The cabin is interesting, in that it has no running water, no electricity, and is accessible only by boat -- an older man, Mr. Browman (the only character with a name) brought her out, along with some food and supplies. She makes a call to her boyfriend back home, then shuts of her cell phone and settles in for two weeks by herself (yeah, right). Day Two: Justin said yes to the project last night, and today I picked him up from the airport. He's playing the MAN (boyfriend turned fiance... but more on the plot later). Today we shot more of Mira and Shane. Him watching her write, them looking out the window at the lake as Mr. Browman arrives unexpectedly to bring more supplies... PICTURE:  The first third of the film is in many ways a silent film. Lot of attention being paid to sound and sound design. That will be key in holding the audiences attention, and delivering a few good scares early on in the film. David Alvarez (pronounced Dawveed) is our location sound mixer and Seth Cooper is his boom operator. David has a number of "memorable" films under his belt including "Beerfest" and "The Dukes of Hazzard", and one of my favorite films of all time (I'm being serious on this one)... "The Daytrippers". Post production sound design will be done by Tom Provost's friend Greg King, who is the owner of one of the top sound design houses in LA - Sound Dogs. He was sound designer for this summer's hit "Hancock" and has designed the sound for most of Michael Mann's films ("Ali" and "The Insider") and many of Peter Berg's films ("Friday Night Lights" and "The Kingdom"). | Thanks for the info lovebird. Sounds like an interesting movie. (It's not on Shane's IMDB page though, which is curious.) On a side note--do we have a new title for the next thread?
