You are both completely right. A season finale cliffhanger would be amazing, but I do think that anything significant would really happen next season.

Season 15 gives hope for the Roomies that's for sure!

It would be great to use his return as cliffhanger, but even if he doesnt come back till the 15th it will be fine. I just want him back.

I think it all depends now on how the remaining 5/6 (?) episodes play out - we have got subtle references to Ray throughout so far, but some more foreshadowing and Neela actually thinking about him will be more of a definite sign!...

What an awesome season finale it would be if Ray turns up and is a changed person *sigh* I guess we can only keep our fingers crossed!

On the topic of finale - they have only a handful of eps to toy with - it will be interesting to see what they do, if Ray isn't an option - theres not much in terms of drama, I mean theres only so many times you can shoot up the ER or have a luby tragedy ;p - If its a Gates centred one - I will definitely hurl, although i'm more satisfied with how gates has been portrayed this year - like the total a** he is

ETA: Wow this board is dead. Maybe we should rename this thread, "Everyone Misses Ray".

Anyway, in terms of what will happen with the roomie storyline, I think that TPTB are hedging all their bets on Shane returning. Neela hasn't had anything even resembling a storyline this season(babysitting Doogie Harold and "having fun" doesn't count). I attribute this to Shane being absent. TPTB seem to have no idea what to do with her character and so far she has been the most disappointing character of the season. Considering that ER will be filming through July, we may get some news in the next couple of months whether Shane is returning or not.

Well that's the pathetic irony of this all - they had the same dilemma with Ray last season - he seemed useless without Neela - I guess this can be viewed as a good thing, at least it will force them to think about bringing him back more!

And for some annoying reason, I can't access the spoilers!

Thanks for the heads up re the spoilers, G. It seemed too soon after the strike to have them so I wouldn't have checked unless you mentioned it.

Re the board, I know what you are saying; I check the boards everyday but it's hard to have something new to say when everything Roomie-related is at a standstill. We've rehashed the old episodes and speculated about the future, but I just wish TPTB would throw us a bone to assure us that it's not all in vain. Re your point about Neela this season, that's an interesting parallel to people's complaints that Ray had no storyline of his own last year other than to pine after Neela. Now it's Neela who has no storyline because she's in denial/conflicted over Ray (even if she hasn't admitted it onscreen)! I don't know why TPTB limited such strong characters to significant storylines that only involve each other.

Re the rest of this season and a S.15, I would be all for a Ray cliffhanger. But I am really wondering how they plan to develop a satisfying Roomie relationship over a season's worth of episodes if Shane isn't there for much/most of it. He'd have to do a recurring guest role like John Leguizamo did. Wish I could crawl inside SW's head and see what he really thinks about coming back for a stint like that.

ETA: Just posted my message and saw that akaz had the same thought re Ray's storyline last year. Great minds...lol.

I'm wondering if TPTB will showcase Ray and Neela early on in season 15 and then have Neela finally confess her love for him and tell him she wants to be with him no matter what but then Ray rejects her. Perhaps because he is not psychologically ready yet to get into a relationship with her because he is still rehabbing and getting use to a life as a disabled person. I'm sure their would still be a lot of pain left over that Ray still hasn't got over yet. Ray would probably ask Neela for more time(a parallel of sorts in comparison to Neela asking Ray for time last season). Then we will see Neela pining(not as pathetic as Ray's puppy dog pining I hope). Then towards the end of the season we will see them reunite again and finally become an official couple.

Does Ray actually know about Neela's accident? - I cant remember it being mentioned...

I don't think so, but I'm not entirely sure to tell the truth -- sometimes the line gets blurry between what I've seen on the show vs. read in numerous fanfics! lol

As for next season's scenarios, I agree with you guys -- I think it would be a real disservice to Ray's character and to the Roomie relationship if they progressed without first exploring Ray's understandable angst over his condition and how it changes his outlook on life. He can't possibly be the same person he was before. In addition, I think showing how he evolves and how Neela responds to it will be important part of redeeming Neela for those fans who feel Neela's to blame for what happened.

Lol! - I know, that's why i'm confused too! - it would be interesting to see if any reference is actually made to Neela's accident again, she was trampled and had major surgery, she must be carrying scars - it was a shame that they didn't explore any of the psychological as well as physical after effects on her...

I think SW would be brilliant at portraying a more serious, embittered Ray - it would make for riveting viewing - and like you said it would be realistic to assume that he has changed...

good point... not sure how much time has passed since the trampling (about seven or eight months if they're in real time, I think?), but isn't it somewhat unrealistic to have someone who recently had such a major surgery be involved in a full-contact sport like hockey?!

It was never mentioned whether Ray knows about Neela's accident or not. We never saw anyone mention him in 14.1, but I'd like to think that a call was made off screen or that Neela wrote to him much later and explained why it had taken her so long to write him.

I agree that there's a ton of stuff they have to work through first. Neela is probably carrying scars from major surgery and we all know Ray has his own. I would love to see them assuring each other that the scars don't matter and don't make them any less of a person than they were before they got them. There's so much potential for such a fabulous story; I'd hate to see them waste it. So I hope they can get Shane back on board.
