Really? - man, I really hope so! - and I totally agree re: Gates - I seriously dont care as long as he stays well away from Neela

Neela let Ray off too easily, too. He was an ass and he should've had to work for her forgiveness because he was so far out of line it wasn't even funny. Abby's no different. She was a bitch just because. She was not that drunk; she knew exactly what she was saying. And the problem is that as part of her 12 steps, she is to make amends to those that she's wronged and apologize for the wrong. She didn't. She used Neela's apartment to slurp her booze and she made a nasty comment meant to hurt so Neela would shut up about her addiction. She didn't apologize for hurting Neela or invading her privacy. Allowing Abby to slide by on the steps with a half-hearted attempt (and her apology was half-hearted to me) makes it too easy on her and gives her no deterrent not to do it again. She should feel shame and she should feel disgusted with herself. So she remembers that feeling the next time she's tempted to drink. Instead, Neela told her she didn't have to apologize and sent the message that it's okay to treat her that way. Loving someone doesn't mean never having to say you're sorry. Loving someone means always saying you're sorry because you care that you hurt them. When you wrong someone you make amends. Especially if it's someone you care about. It's what grown-up people do. But then, this is Abby. And she's been nothing but a spoiled brat for years.

I also felt that Abby's apology stunk like a skunk. I felt the writers did a poor job(seems like a common theme nowadays) with that dialog. Abby didn't even mention anything about Ray which was at the root of the wrong that hurt Neela.

Exactly. She apologized for 'pushing her away' when she was only trying to help, but she never acknowledged that what she said about Ray was hurtful or crossed the line or was meant to shut Neela up and ignore her addiction. And most importantly, that she was sorry for saying it. Neela told her she didn't have to be, so she wasn't. The point of making amends and apologizing is to recognize and admit the power that alcohol (or drugs or whatever) has over you when you're not in control of your addiction. If you can't (or won't) do that, you're doomed to fall off the wagon again and again until you can, because you're not in the mindset it takes to stay sober. Which means Abby hasn't made any progress in her recovery at all.

And thanks for posting that, buzzy. Hopefully the strike will end soon and they'll be able to move things forward. I'm gonna move it over to the News thread, if you don't mind, cause I think more people will see it there.

So have we definitely decided on a title for the next thread yet?

Edith: What is your avi from? Shane looks very yummy in it, love the brooding look and the suit is nice too. Don't recognise the pic, is it from one of his new movies or just a general photo of him.

Speaking of his movies, does anyone know when or if any of them will actually be released.

Really, I am impressed with how we still manage to keep our love for the roomies so high when we haven't seen any Ray or heard much of him from Neela since last season, and of course sparingly through out this season.

I need the strike to end, because then maybe the plan for a Shane West return can be put into action.

Hi everybody, I haven't been here in awhile, it's been good to catch up on everything that's been happening. I'm glad Ray's been mentioned a few times recently, I was beginning to wonder if TPTB were never going to mention him again in the hope that we would all forget he ever existed (as if there was ever the slightest chance that that would ever happen).

I've only seen the first 2 episodes of s14 and so far I'm not loving it, although maybe it would help if I didn't keep thinking how much better certain scenes would be if Ray had done them. For instance, the storyline that Gates had in episode two about the young boy who diagnosed his own disease - how much better would those scenes have been if Ray had done them, he was great with children. Also, the scene in episode one where Dubenko was holding Neela's hand after her operation, all I could think was 'It should have been Ray sat there hoding Neela's hand, willing her to wake up'. How fantastic it would have been if Ray had been there to help Neela all through her recovery. Although if you think back to all the opportunities that there have been in the last few years to get Ray and Neela closer, I guess it's not really surprising that they messed up yet another one.

One thing that did make me smile recently was when one of the TV listings magazines over here described Gates as 'crushingly one-dimensional', especially as the same magazine made him sound like the saviour of the show before the start of s13. It's good that they've finally realised what we knew all along - that Gates has had a charisma bypass!

Welcome back.

And it's nice to see the critics finally seeing the light on Gates. If they'd thrown him under the truck instead, the ratings would be fabulous right now. As for the Gates scenes, I agree; Ray would've been so much better. And from a Roomies standpoint, I would've rather have seen him with Neela, too. But I can live with the Dubenko stuff. I like the mentor/student relationship, and as of last ep, that appears to be where he's put himself in her life.
