Hehe, I think they do need those. That scene just sucked, because while on its own it was cute, they didn't solve a thing. What will happen the next time Luka does something and Sam gets pissed? I wouldn't know because they didn't talk about it.

Mm, I should... except that I *want* to write it - I just keep having problems with the fan fic format and English, it's been so long since I wrote something for ER - that anyone actually read, that is, have some Luka ficlet full of lovely angst that no one has read att ff.net - that I have lost my touch, I think... It's scary when people told you you rocked for ages, and then you have to live up to it... __________________

I will try and remedy that for you over this weekend I'm sure you'll continue to reach high standards, you seem to be putting a lot of planning into your writing, always a good sign GV is staying on for S12? I guess that's good news, but I won't hold out too much hope for any juicy Luby action. What's the general consensus on Abby/Jake? Is it a keeper? Surely tptb wouldn't come full circle on us finally? __________________

You know, I just can't win when it comes to ER anymore. I really expected to like Abby/Jake. In fact I was excited the first time I read he was coming and saw the pic. He's hunky and it seemed like it would be a nice change of pace, especially now that Luka's been turned into worse milquetoast than Mark ever was. But I found their scenes had no natural chemistry and seemed way too forced. I don't like it when I'm watching a couple and I can feel the writers/actors efforts to sell it rather than it just flowing. Not that I think I'll despise it like Carter/Abby and Sam/Luka, I may even warm to it, but it seems way too Cleo for me, and Jake is a bit of a flake (hey, it's not just me! Abby asked him if he was high when he was talking to her).
I don't know. Between Abby/Jake, Luka/Sam, and Carter/Wendall I just don't know where tptb's heads are at with relationships anymore. They make it so much harder than they need to, especially when they had the "new Doug and Carol" right in front of them. Re Sam/Luka it was nice to have the validation verbalized that Luka's motivations in the relationship are questionable at best-that in his mind he sees someone who needs him to rescue and fix, not as an equal partner (not that Sam hasn't encouraged that, so I almost don't see her having the right to get angry at him for it). And I saw no indication from him that he acknowledged her complaints ie that it was actually going to change anything or that he even believed her. And the scene at the end came across as him wanting to avoid talking about it or accepting what she was saying, not as an actual legitimate resolution. In a perfect world that would mean the beginning of the end but since this is tptb we're talking about it probably means they'll be married in 3 weeks (no! that's not a spoiler, that's sarcasm-I hope). I guess for me the problem is that it's like carby, there's so much wrong that I don't see any one thing being able to fix it. On the bright side, Carter proposed to Abby and then they broke up so anything is possible, despite appearances. Luka wouldn't yell "I'm done" to Sam when she's bitchy because he thinks if he sticks with it she'll become what he wants or what he thinks she needs to be (carby much?). He thinks he's saving her (and Alex). I think if anyone calls it it will have to be Sam. I think Luka must think that his only fault with Abby was giving up and he's not going to give up on Sam no matter what, and thinks that will make it all ok. It still seems like he thinks he has to earn love and that his feelings are secondary (which is why I love the idea that Abby simply loves him in spite of everything) Anyway, that's my dimestore overanalysis, and we all know tptb don't think things through very much. There were a couple luby moments, but minimal at best. One when Abby comes back to work and Luka sees her walk past he calls to her excitedly and they exchange brief niceties, but Morris is there talking to her too and then Chuny interrupts to greet her. And at the end Neela's asking Abby about workplace crushes, then they both run into Luka/Sam and there's an awkward exchange and looks between Luka/Abby. Still it's nice to see those tiny reminders that they were once something to each other. It's an improvement on earlier this season when they may as well have been perfect strangers as far as tptb were concerned. from Kikkoman last thread: "Still, just because neither said the word, it doesn't mean the feeling wasn't there, does it?" Actions speak louder than words (or should). It's why I had trouble buying the Carter love or the Luka/Sam ILU. No passion or genuineness to it, too much else coming into play. What I've always loved about Luka/Abby is that even after the breakup when they weren't trying to prove anything to each other you could see the caring and affection for each other. It came out time and time again, and made me believe that the depth of caring was very deep, whether they ever verbalized it or not. That's what makes a relationship real for me, not simply two people going through the motions of a relationship or speaking all the "right" words. annuscka, what's your screenname at ff.net? It's been awhile since I've gone and looked for any new luby fics. About time I changed that. |
