^ Indeed, last night's episode featured the actor who played Dr. Vuselich as the man we *thought* was coming to Alicia's aid.

So, last night's episode. As I suspected, the State's Attorney title has been ripped from Alicia's hands. It was so cruel the way she was made to be the sacrificial lamb by greater Party authorities. I may not have wanted Alicia and SA (and I certainly think this is a more interesting story) but by the end I just wanted to be the one hugging her:

I don't know that I can see that happening. I think right now her instinct is to hold onto him because she's been burned politically and he of all people understands that world. I certainly hope this makes for a more peaceful relationship between them because I love the history that plays underneath their scenes, but romantically? I don't see it anymore.

I saw about five minutes of this week's episode - flipped it on randomly - and I'll be honest, I started laughing at the exchange in which the party tells her she's out of luck. Primarily because it was less reminiscent of early TGW and more like an over-the-top scene out of Scandal. I mean, I get that they had to spell it out for viewers, but it came very close to this, IMO:

So, what happened exactly?

What I understood between giggles was that there was some irregularity with votes in the SA election triggering a statewide recount, the Democratic leadership didn't want to have the recount because other races were close and if they went the other way, they'd lose the majority in the state legislature. So to avoid all this, Alicia has to resign or concede or something for the good of the party. And they promised she'd be rewarded in the next election, to which she said "but I want it now" or something like that and frowned very hard and then they made it clear that there was nothing they could do.

Someone else might've had more context, but from what I saw, none of it made sense in terms of the way democracy works, even in Chicago.

They'd see to it that she was elected to something or made chairperson of something. Kind of like how we pick Ambassadors here, except instead of sacrificing their elected positions for the good of the party, they just write really big checks.

Which is why we have a lot of terrible Ambassadors.

It didn't seem preposterous to me, but then again, just Google Northern Irish politics and you'd swear it is from where Shonda Rhimes is pulling all of her source material.
