Thanks, guys It was the right thing to do, she was in constant pain. Still, we're worried about my sister, because of her depression. She seemed okay today, though.

Kiko started his treatment today. So far, so good. He's taking two vitamins, to fight the anemia, one kind of medicine for the leishmaniose itself (to keep it from spreading), medicine to protect his liver, a spray to protect his kidneys. All these are temporary. What's permanent is the oil and collar used to prevent mosquitoes from going near him, the leishmaiose shots, which he'll have to take every 6 months, and we'll always have to keep him inside during the twilight hours, when the mosquitoes are more active. Once it's dark, he can go to the yard again. Let's hope this all works out

My staff's Christmas party is tomorrow night and I woke up today with the worst cold of my life.

I was SO disapointed with my father tonight. Okay, I'm PMSing and things REALLY get to me a lot more than usual during this time, but what he said is something that bothers me any day of the month, and that is, referring to óther cultures as "stupid", "idiotic", "fundamentalist", just using all the wrong words in general to talk about something you're not a part of, just because it's different than what you know. My mom was telling us stories of someone she knows, who lived in Italy for many years and experienced cultural shock, like how they don't bathe daily like we do and therefore smell bad, how they don't know how to throw a party like we do, and how they're offended if you try to bargain. I said, okay, but did she meet ALL Italians?? Because if she only hung out with some people, that doesn't count for ALL of the citizens of a country. Besides, I said, if you're out of your country, you gotta try to understand that YOU are the one who has to try harder to fit in, and understand that just because is or isn't a big deal in your country, it doesn't mean it has to be that way everywhere. So I gave an example, of a tv show I was watching the other day, an architect living in Taipei was telling how different it was there, how important feng shui is to them, like, she was part of a project for a family house where the couple and theeir child were gonna live. But the mom died, and they had to change everything because of that, there was a door that couldn't be there anymore because a person had died (I don't remember what having the door meant). Here, that would make no difference, but death and spirituality is handled in different ways in different places, so it doesn't matter what my own beliefs are, if I'm gonna live in that country, I gotta adapt to that. And in her office too, there was a Budah image that had to be facing in a certain direction.

So he said "oh like the Muslims, that have to pray facing a certain direction, too", I said yeah, and thought, happily, that my point was made. That was when he started going on about how idiotic it is to be praying ALL day (yeah, ALL day, like they do nothing else) in a certain way, and be bowing a thousand times. I said, well, have you noticed how in Catholic church we kneel and stand up a thousand times, too? Oh but that's different. Yeah, of course it's different, I said, because that's how YOU grew up

It's like he hadn't been listening to ONE single word I said. I mean, I know my father is narrow minded when it comes to...almost everything, really, but at least on this matter, I hoped he would at least think before using disrespectful vocabulary like that. But I guess it was silly of me to expect that

That is disappointing and frustrating and everything I have come to expect from discussing these issues with family. It's not that what they say is any worse than what I hear from the rest of the world, but your relatives mean so much more to you that words and views like that just cut to the bone.

Thanks Stephen

^ Yep. It´s different when it´s your family when they have that point of view, bacause it is like, you have been raised the same way or by them (parents, siblings,...). I understand that for older people, it is difficult to understand other cultures and the new culture of our generation, but as we always say, we have to respect other cultures because what is normal for us, is not for other ones, at the same time, they think the same about us. You have to be open minded but is not easy for a lot of people.

Well, my parents are at home after 3 months without seeing them, and it is being increasingly more difficult to live together again, for me, because I make myself comfortable with my independence.

EXACTLY. I have no intention of having healthy discussions with the social media specialists on everything, so when they say **** like this, I just keep scrolling or go do something else, but when it's someone you care about, someone you love and admire, someone you expect so much better from...it hurts

I had a great day, today, though Mateus and I spent the day together, baked a cake and watched Jane The Virgin

How was everyone's weekend?

Congrats on the new addition Ainara

That's frustrating Ju I've given up on talking to certain family members about things because it just drives me crazy how close minded people can be.

Today I am finishing off my Christmas shopping - just a few little things to get and then I can relax with all my TV that is waiting for me.

I have not started yet Well, in my house we give each other presents at 6th January so, I have time.

Plus, maybe I have to go to Madrid those days, my brother is having surgery and is in Madrid, so my parents are going to go. If I have to work, I don´t know how I make it to be there too.

I get you so well, Ju! Now with all the refugees coming to Finland and other European countries, there's so much talk about foreigners and other religions here. And in my family too, and I get so frustrated when people can't look at things at the refugees' perspective. My dad is pretty narrow-minded too, which annoys me.

But yayy, I'm so happy to be in Oulu! It's so great to be here with my whole family. It's pretty loud though, with two one-year-olds and 13 adults. But it's so much fun too!
