I really don't understand the reasoning? I guess for an extra minute of the episode but the later seasons weren't that great so I don't get it.

Agreed. It just came at a time when new shows were not including theme songs, so there was this trend of existing shows just cutting them out altogether. I caught an old Grey's Anatomy episode recently and was like, "WTH?! When was there a theme song on this show?!"

Yeah.

Law & Order seems to be the only show from the past to not follow the pattern. I was upset when ER decided to follow the trend.

I love when shows had theme songs.
