Anthony Edwards/Mark Greene #1: His Legacy Lives On!

Okay so I didn't see this around (if there is one feel free to close it).

This is a thread dedicated to the one ER doc who truly was the face of ER back in the day, Dr. Mark Greene. He left us with some amazing moments and even his death felt like the death of a friend (or in my case a father figure).

Hard to believe this show is finally over for good. I remember during season 14 they weren't sure if they would get a season 15. Glad they did because the ending of last night and the whole full circle with Rachel Greene and Dr. Carter was just amazing!

It's incredible that Mark's legacy will live on in his daughter Rachel as she has gone into medicine too. Though the show is over, in my mind I look forward to her taking over the ER and becoming the kind of doctor her father was.

"The Letter"
Season 8 Episode 20 (May 2, 2002)

"On The Beach"
Season 8 Episode 21

It's a touching moment, I'll give em that. Seeing Rachel again, nice. She'll pick up where her father left off.

Ohh...Mark Greene was the soul of ER. I loved him on the show.
And now his daughter Rachel will set the tone!
I cried so much, hearing Carter saying: "Are you coming Dr. Greene?"

Libra: That was the best moment for me when Carter asked that! Definately homage to Mark when he said it the first time around: "Are you coming Dr. Carter?"

I loved all of the Rachel/Dr. C moments but that one was by far my most fave!

Mark would be so proud of Rachel. In the retrospective one of the scenes that they showed was Mark telling Elizabeth his list of things to do before he died and one of those was "Fix Rachel." It's so sad that Mark never got to see Rachel change. I bet he's smiling from heaven and will be watching over her.

Wish I knew where I could find some caps of Mark. Even some with him and Rachel.

Aw, thanks for opening this thread. Mark was very much present throughout last night's finale, and I am psyched to think that Rachel may one day carry on the Greene legacy at County.

How saw was the clip in the retrospective when Alex Kingston talked about filming Mark's dying days in Hawaii, and she started to cry?

Also when Lydia woke up Morris...it was the same she did with Mark in the pilot!

Yeah there were so many Mark Greene moments all over the place.

And the retrospective was amazing. I loved how Alex cried when she talked about filming in Hawaii for Mark's death moments. And how she couldn't really talk about it because even after all the time has past, it's still very emotional.

Out of all of the ER deaths, Mark certainly got the best one I think.

I agree. Lucy's was intense, electrifying, and one of the best episodes ER ever produced. But it was the pace of the episode which makes it stand out, rather than Lucy's death. Romano's death was plain stupid. A complete sweeps stunt. Pratt's death was much more emotional, but it still can't trump Mark's death.

I think it's because we didn't see it coming. Even though we knew he was dying, The Letter aired before On The Beach, so when we first watched The Letter, it was like a punch to the guy when Carter read out, "Mark died this morning". So to see his dying days in the following episode made it even harder to watch.

Thanks tidbit

irishghost- Oh totally. Finding out about Mark's death first through The Letter and then seeing how Mark died was just too much. They did a great job with both those eps.

Are you greeting your doctor with :"Hi Dr. Greene?"

On the Beach is really so heartbraking. I also cry everytime I watch it or when I watch The Letter. He shouldn't have died...

I hate thinking about the fact that he died. When I go back and watch early episodes, it now seems crazy that he was killed off. But it is what Anthony and the writers wanted, so we have to be okay with it.

In a way, killing him was the only way to get Anthony off the show because Mark was never going to leave County to take a new job somewhere else. He had proved that he wanted to be there for life.

Yeah, we have to be okay with it. But it was just so sad and I remember feeling like a friend of mine died.
