Halloween parties were never Nick's favorite kind of thing, but he had no excuse to decline this invitation and disappoint the kiddies who were expecting him to appear in costume. So far, everything appeared normal and Nick was preparing to drive back to his home and to make supper for himself. He was not expecting any trick-or-treaters to knock on his door, so he tried to find something to give them.

He was just about to get some candy for the kiddies who he was sure were knocking on his door when a ghostly shadow drifted past the window. It appeared to be just hovering above the table and looked menacingly over at him.

Nick was not terrified, however, he felt eerily reminded that he once had an encounter with a haunted pet and how disorienting it had become for him then. The thought of that meeting distressed made it unlikely he would engage with the spectre, so it had become clear that he would go on as though it had never happened. The ghostly apparition slipped through the wall and reappeared as Nick was preparing the candy. He did notice, however, that there was a glowing residue on the wall shaped like one strange handprint. This intrigued him because Nick realized that it was exactly what he needed to do; he was certain that he could go on with his plans if this apparition would just be predictable and materialize as the others had.

The hand was a silver mass, similar a little child's handprint. He did notice that the thumb seemed a little disproportionate to his other digits. It emitted a curious gas which glowed a bright orange and yellow, and smelled like rotten eggs. Nick grimaced and tried to not gag while
