“So,” he begins awkwardly. “What are you in for?”

For a moment he doesn't think she's going to answer him, sitting up straight and tucking the flashlight into one of the pockets or her denim jacket, then letting those gloved hands rub down her legs and stop at the knees.

“Breaking and entering,” she admits. “Possibly interfering with a police investigation.”

The girl shrugs as if the charges are no big deal. Or that she knows the consequences of them are not actually a threat. Ace lets out a low whistle, which gets the smallest hint of a smile from her. He's about to make another joke involving a newly acquired rap sheet, when it suddenly clicks that her amateur thief outfit and the nights big event are not coincidental.

He looks over at her with as relaxed a face as ever. The next words fall lithely out of his lips, “People are gonna disappoint you. Don’t hold it against them.”

An unsettled feeling begins to claw at her conscience. She knows who she is - strong-willed, determined, and stubborn as an ox when it comes to admitting her pride - but she also knows who Carson Drew is. Kind, compassionate, and far more forgiving than she could ever deserve.

So then why does she still feel so indignant, as though she has been wronged and betrayed by the one person she had always trusted the most? No, she isn’t ready to forgive him.

But when will she ever be?

While Ace is looking away she examines the vaguely-lit angles of his face, contemplating. She breaks the tension with a lighthearted quip. “Well you never seem to disappoint me, Ace.”

A small grin forms on his face as he glances back at her, this time holding her gaze for more than a few seconds.

Bess watched it all unfold before her very eyes....and she would never ever forget it.

Ace and Nancy were always constantly discussing wild theories about their cases, but lately it seemed as if they were just going through the motions...not really saying anything genuine.

Their latest actions were subtle, but noticeable to her. Nancy gripped the pen of her journal a little too tightly. Ace pounded away on his laptop a little too loudly. Nancy forced politeness with customers as she took their orders. Ace washed a dish a little too long; spacing out as the sink nearly overflowed. Not to mention, they were steadily sneaking glances at each other when they were sure the other wasn't looking. Bess couldn't help but be drawn to the tension between them. She loved ~drama.

Did something happen with the case...or between them?

She didn't know what was going on, but she was going to find out.

Nick: What about Jamie? Nancy: I think Jamie should move onto bigger and better things. Nick: Maybe he can be like a sous-chef? George: Nancy, you don't even show up for work! Nancy: I know, but when I do...I want Ace to be there. Nick: Oh he's there...he's just washing dishes. Ace: *looks half sad/amused*
