No idea how they are writing her but that is plausible, because she's so dead in the books, so either she 'wants to talk to him' about her brother or secrets she knows! She's a mystery at this point.

Maybe she had no pulse and seemed dead. In the books he drowned her so maybe it's the same here.

Well she's alive and back for season two, so he didn't kill her but maybe he wanted to?

It's weird because in the book she's definitely dead, so to bring her back is odd.

He might have locked her up, to make her see reason but found her gone after.

Though I have to watch the show again to know if that is even possible because I'm not sure if at any point Joe was 100% certain he killed Candace. If he did try killing her and she hears about Beck, I don't see why she wouldn't go straight to the police.

I think he thought he killed her because he was so surprised to see her and not in a I locked you up came back and you were gone way either. More like and I thought you were dead way
