Dodgers auctioning special experiences for Hollywood stars game on June 21
06/09/2008 7:15 PM ET
MLB.com

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers are auctioning unique and memorable experiences for the 50th annual Hollywood Stars Game on Saturday, June 21. Fans are invited to be part of the action when honorary team captains Russell Martin and James Loney work alongside top celebrities in film, television, music, and theater. The packages will offer fans the opportunity to take part in pre-game and in-game festivities, with proceeds from the auction benefiting the Dodgers Dream Foundation. More than 30 celebrities are expected to participate in the game, including Christian Slater, David Arquette, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Van Der Beek, Sean Astin, Tom Arnold, Garry Marshall, Cristian de la Fuente, George Thorogood, and many more. The game will be hosted by popular E! personalities from E! News and The Daily 10 and will feature special performances by the Blue Man Group. The Hollywood Stars Game will begin shortly after the conclusion of the Los Angeles Dodgers-Cleveland Indians game that day, which starts at 12:55 p.m.
Fans can vie to be an honorary photographer, an honorary coach, or an official Hollywood Stars batkid. Additional auction winners will read the celebrity team lineups or take the field with a celebrity at the start of the game and receive their autograph. Each package includes four baseline box or field level tickets to the Dodgers-Indians game. Many of the experiences are open to adults and children of all ages. Bidding is now underway online and will continue until 2 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, June 17. Full details of each package are online at dodgers.com/ticketauction.
Founded in 1998, the Dodgers Dream Foundation (DDF) was created to provide educational, athletic and recreational opportunities for the youth of the Greater Los Angeles community. In 2007, the Dodgers and the Dodgers Dream Foundation assisted more than 5,000 local youth organizations by renovating baseball fields in the community, through player appearances, and by donating more than 100,000 tickets, autographed memorabilia, donation of used equipment and much more. Last season, the Dodgers Dream Foundation affected an estimated 250,000 local youth through its various programs.
Anyone else wanna have loads of money and be around there?

I have no idea about how to play baseball. I've tried the baseball game on the nintendo wii and well, I couldn't do it. I'd be up for it if I had the money and James was willing to coach me

Karen. I can't play at all either, but James teaching me how to hold the bat would definitely convince me to give it another try.

Jen. Where DID the Hussie thread go?

Okay, James, we're going to seriously have to ask you to stop whatever you're doing and update your site. 'Kay, thanks.

Jen, if you're struggling looking for the Hussie thread you can always check out the "where do we go from here" thread OP.

I know, it's quite depressing isn't it? Maybe he's busy still filming that new movie? Still...we need something new to get us by until the release of said movie.

Live from Los Angeles: Hollywood Stars
MLB.com to stream 50th annual celebrity softball game

There's too much history to mention when you visit Dodger Stadium, but one of the grandest traditions links the legendary ballyard in Chavez Ravine to a slightly famous nearby neighborhood: Hollywood.
It's called the Hollywood Stars Game and it dates back to just after the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, making this year's version the 50th annual staging of the softball classic.

Technology being what it is in 2008, MLB.com and the Hollywood Stars Game are pairing up to stream this spectacle of entertainment live, right onto your computer monitor. The game, which takes place on the field after the Dodgers take on the Cleveland Indians on Saturday, June 21, will be available free of charge on BaseballChannel.TV, at MLB.com and Dodgers.com.
The stars will be out on the field in full force for the game, with many players returning to take part in the game for a second or third time and a few newcomers, too.

Celebrity players with baseball ties include "Desperate Housewives" actor James Denton, a Hollywood Stars fixture and lifelong baseball fan who in 2007 became a co-owner of the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League; blues rocker George Thorogood, a Dodgers season-ticket holder and former Minor League player and James Van Der Beek of "Dawson's Creek" and "Varsity Blues" fame, who made an over-the-wall catch and hit a home run in the 2005 Hollywood Stars game

Thanks for posting that, Kimberly! That's pretty exciting. Now we'll at least get to see him play and imagine being there with him, while we cheer him on from our computer desks.
