James as Paul Twist in 'Final Draft' appreciation thread

Hey what's up everyone.

So I just finished watching Final Draft like 2 minutes ago.
As could be expected, I'm not very positive about the movie.
The plot somewhat interesting but the directing is abismal.
Final Draft is about a writer called Paul Twist.
Paul Twist has somewhat of a dillema.
He's fresh out of material to write about so he has this brilliant idea to write about clown who he remembers from his childhood.
What's interesting about a clown you ask?
Well....we're not talking about just any clown.
This particulair clown set himself on fire and apparently got killed by it.
What's tragic about it, is that everyone laughed about it, obviously they thought it was a part of the act, which it wasn't.
Paul thought it would make for an interesting story if the clown got back to kill all those who laughed at him.

Luck has it that Paul has kind of a writers block, so a friend suggests that he'd lock himself in for a couple of days to finish the screenplay.
Because of his isolation he goes bananas and starts hallucinating.
You would think this would make for an interesting thriller...but it doesn't.
The scenes seem highly random and dont really explain a lot, or give the characters any sort of development.
The story had a lot of potential, but unfortunatly the writers/director or whoever failed to make use of that potential.
The acting is so-so, the story is pretty basic and the overall pace of the film is pretty slow and doesn't get up to speed until......never.
It's all too generic and flawed to be memorable, even for those who love James van der Beek, like myself.
It indeed seems like a well financed student film, with the grade C- slapped all over it.

Fans of James van der Beek don't have a lot of alternatives, so due to lack of options and choice they will go and see this film, only to be extremely disappointed.
Fans of thrillers obviously need to seek elsewhere.

Thanks for the info everyone!

So my mom went to the video store to rent this movie for me because I was in school and she had the day off. Anyways, it turned out that somebody else had checked it out and that was the store's only copy. So now I want to know who else is a James fan in my city.

The trailer does make the movie look good. But that's what there meant to do, right? It kind of looks like a documentary.

But damn, does James look good. He plays "crazy" very well.

^ I'll try. I'll probably go back this weekend to see if it's back and I also got to rent 'A New Wave' with John Krasinski (love).

I thought it was good to. It's a low budget, you can certainly tell, but I think it was well done. It got a little confusing at parts though.
