That's a good way of looking at it. So the finale was supposed to occur what, a month or so ago? I've lost track. Anyway, I give them a few more weeks before the crap starts hitting the fan.

See, I'll never understand how Joey could tell Dawson to give them the happy ending...and then go to Pacey. What are we meant to believe that Pacey is the epitome of something better than a happy ending?

I think Joey wants to believe in a happy ending with Dawson, - she would rather live a life of crap then have her DJ ending ruined so she's entrusted into Dawson's hands to preserve on film.
That is of course, till she finally wakes up or gets some kind of therapy.

Karen - If we are to believe that her ending up with Pacey would be better than the "Happy Ending" of DJ, then they were surely smoking something. Not that there was any doubt of that to begin with.

I know we've discussed this before, but I'm curious again. What do you all think Dawson would be doing right about now? Jen has died, PJ are together in NYC (we'll just say that they still are as of right now)...Dawson's doing what?

I'd like to think that he'd be getting his dream of working with Spielberg, and had started seriously dating someone. He would've managed to balance his work and personal life, and has a really great, down-to-earth, non-actress girlfriend. Someone kinda like Jen as far as her personality goes, and who's crazy about him and knows that she would never be crazy enough to let him go. So he's doing pretty darn good right now, as far as I'm concerned.

Though in my mind the DJo wedding was real with a few word choice changes and they're honeymooning as we speak.

Given my icon choice, I was kind of wondering what everyone thought about the Mitch dying storyline in s5. On one hand I thought it was well done, they really had Dawson deal with that instead of it being an episode arch that ended before it really got to start, but on the other hand I really hated that he died and it was used as another device to keep DJo apart when they should've been brought closer together by shared experience. Though I did understand where he was coming from since he put so much blame on himself for everything which was really sad to watch.

Nic, I'm with you. The Long Goodbye is one of my fave episodes of season 5 because of the way it was handled. I liked that we got to see Dawson, Joey, Pacey and Gail recall something from their past and that as you say, Dawson had to deal with it over the course of many episodes, not just it being done and dusted in a few episodes.

But, the thing that doesn't sit well with me is the fact that this was used as a way to keep DJ apart again. I guess Joey not being in the right place for them was becoming a tad redundant

Personally, I think that the writers should have used this as a way to bring DJ together.

If I'd have had a chouce and had things pretty much happen as they did (aside from the ending), I would have had it so Dawson stayed in LA for at least a semester in S5, I feel he never really gave it a chance and the writers used any excuse to bring Dawson back to the Boston area and since he and Joey would be inevitable then they killed Mitch.

So my plan would have been Dawson staying in LA a little longer, maybe being on the verge of not going back. Dawson comes to Boston for a visit and that's when DJ end up sleeping together. And as things played out on the show, Dawson kinda had a girlfriend in LA, and we get what happened in 602 and there's a fight. Dawson ends up going back to LA, deciding to stay there.

but then, Mitch dies. It brings Dawson home to take care of his family. It brings DJ back together. She helps him to heal, the way he helped her. And they start to rebuild their friendship. Mitch's death also allows Joey to think about how fragile life can be, it could have been Dawson and she would have been devisated if they'd never gotten their chance to shine. And so SHE embarks on them becoming a couple. She pursues him for a change. And it culminates in a DJ wedding in the finale.

Karen I love the way you think! If you haven't written a fic with that plotline, you should, for sure.

I agree with all your points, the writers tried to make it seem like Dawson's whole life revolved around being with Joey at the beginning of s5 yet they gave him the ending they did?

I mean Dawson is a lot of things, Joey is part of that, but to make it all about her kind of sucks. He needed to find himself too, away from her and I'm not sure they ever gave him the chance to do that without diminishing his character in some way. Of course, it would have come back to her in the end like you said, it always did. But I digress on that since this isn't the DJo thread.

I think Mitch dying had an impact on his character which I liked, to see someone who was always so optimistic and dream-like to fall into the darkness of reality was sad to see but very realistic. It's hard to take that kind of hit when you view the world around you in rose-colored glasses, I know this from experience, but to see him eventually get back up and still go on with that same sense of hope and belief was beautiful. I think he changed a lot as things kept piling up in his life, but he always found a quiet acceptance if not understanding of those events. He was cynical from time to time, but I think in the end he started to believe again which was a great progression for his character if you ask me. It's easy to be a dreamer when nothing bad comes your way but to be after you get through those things shows more strength of character and will. Which I think we got with him, so in that aspect I was happy with it since first and foremost on this show I am a Dawson fan and enjoyed him having storylines that had to do with life, change, and growth.
