I admit I'm looking forward to a friendship between them in some ways more than a romance. Just seeing them be there for each other and be in each other lives in a happy and healthy way.

Oh I want that too, I want to see big sweeping romantic moments where Michael and Alex get to be in love and happy that they are in love. No more shame, no more sadness, no more tragedy.
But from some odd reason I want to see the friendship scenes more between them. I think maybe because last season was such a mess and I kept thinking that Alex deserved better. And the feeling that Michael needed to work to redeem himself when it came to Alex. Plus it's nice to see the organic buildup of their reworking their foundation, so that they can have a stronger love story later on. Also I just adore Vlamburn and their friendship is so enjoyable to watch in general. __________________
