The stale storyline and the bland characters.

I think a lot of big franchises can be bad I'm sure ST has redeeming qualities, but based on what I've seen (which, if I'm remembering the names right, was a bit of The Next Generation and Voyager shows and a couple of the original series films) it's really bad.

I disagree. She said she watched Next Generation. That's one of the best Trek shows.

If one of their best shows needs specific episodes to be good then it kinda proves my point

I love Deep Space 9 the most from the shows. The reboots are great from the movies, and The Voyage Home

Deep Space Nine has some great stuff. Captain Sisko is great. He was the first black captain and he's one of the best captains. There are some great female characters on that show -Kira Nerys and Jadzia Dax. Also there's Odo, who's always great. And Doctor Bashir, a rare Arab character. Very sympathetic. On the downside, DS9 sometimes gets a bit silly. The Ferengi episodes. The show has more of a grand storyline than most Trek shows, building a whole saga of war, politics, intrigue, etc. Though that takes a while to get off the ground. Oh and there's an Irish character, played by Colm Meaney from Ireland.
