Adam Driver has said in recent interviews that he has played this character since the beginning of the trilogy with something important in mind that JJ Abrams has shared with him, in relation to how the character moves forward. Thus, I take this to mean that there was always a bigger plan for Kylo than what we initially believed we saw in TFA. If he was simply evil, then there wouldn't be much point or analysis placed onto his character. Also, I refuse to believe that two people as inherently good as Han and Leia would give birth to somebody whose only purpose in the SW universe was to bring about evil.

Also, an inherently evil boy wouldn't have cried or even felt negative emotion about killing his father.
