He's the lead guitarist for the rock/metal group, Van Halen, which started in the late 1970s and peaked in the 1980s at the height of the rock/metal era. David Lee Roth(lead vocals/songwriter), Eddie Van Halen(lead guitar/backing vocals/songwriter), Alex Van Halen(drums), and Michael Anthony(bass/backing vocals) were the founding members. David Lee Roth left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Sammy Hagar from 1986 to the mid-1990s until Hagar quit the band after a falling out between him and Eddie. David Lee Roth reunited with the band briefly in 1996 and then permanently in the early 2000s. Eddie passed away from cancer yesterday. He was 65 years old. Known for his patented "tapping' technique where he plays guitar notes on the fretboard with both hands, he is seen as one of the most influential and revolutionary guitarists in music history.
