Well, okay. At least there's that. Man, I wish I'd met you guys back in the 80s when we were all still in a good mood.

I spent most of the '80s fighting off bullies.

I've spent it trying to survive my abusive mother

while it wasn't pleasant at the time, I don't actually mind. It made me study Psychology and become who I am now.

I had my own experiences that I don't want to get into. The '80s and '90s included a lot of rough stuff for me.

I'm sorry you both went through that stuff.

Well, I went through my parents' divorce, getting picked on by bullies, and being mistreated by my father. But in spite of what was going on with me personally, the 80s in general were great. I never felt like the world was messed up, just my life, but I also felt like I got stronger with each passing year and I developed and disappeared into my own imagination. The 80s in general were just fun to live in. The music, the cinema, the popular culture, the freedom, you know? We don't seem to have that today. Today everything is so mediocre, so politically correct, so sanitized, so boring.

The world was certainly simpler back then.

Yep, and more unified, it seemed. No one lived any year in the 1980s just waiting for that year to be over so they could move on to the next one. From 1980 to 1990 we just lived every year as it came and enjoyed it. There was no rush, and that's why that decade seems longer than it actually was, like it was twice as long as a mere ten years.

Time also seems to pass slower when you're younger and faster the older you get.

True, but I also think that the 80s just seemed longer because no one was in any particular rush to get through it, at least not here in the USA. I was in my 20s in the 1990s, and that decade seemed to go by a lot quicker. It's a shame that I didn't appreciate it at the time because of my... unfortunate circumstances at the time.
