What does NBC deem safe for the ratings to pick this show up for a full season & then eventually a renewal?

I'm not sure. I really need to find out, both for this and for B99.

I haven't really paid much attention to current ratings. I think it matters how it ranks for the timeslot, what the rest of the shows on NBC do, and how consistent it is week to week.

I think 6mil is generally safe. Not sure how far below that, though.

EDIT: Looked up NBC last season ratings. Everything but one thing above 5.6 million ratings was renewed, and I think that one thing was a limited series.

Thanks for that. 5.6 is a pretty high margin. But new shows (especially the 1st ep) do bring in the ratings so the later eps are the ones that will matter.

There were a few that were renewed with less. I think the lowest was around 3 million, but other factors probably come into play there.

NBC have disappointed me in the past so I hope they're more lax this time around.

I can't see them being lax, unfortunately. Hope they might be, though.

It's hard to predict, they definitely bet on it to succeed. They didn't have a hit show last season, they'll probably expect the Manifest to be their new hit show.

According to this article they do -

Quote:
Manifest ratings expectations: Will NBC’s high-concept series be a big hit?

Moving into Monday night’s premiere of Manifest, should we have expectations that this is the next big hit?

We know that for NBC, there are certainly some high expectations out there that this show could be something special. For starters, it feels like it’s been a minute since we’ve had the high-concept drama in this vein on TV. Back when Lost was on the air, these were shows that you were getting on a near-constant basis. Now, we’re not seeing it anywhere near as much. (There are some pretty easily comparisons between Manifest and Lost, in particular when it comes to the airplane setting.)

To go along with this, we also do think that this show has one of the network’s best lead-ins following two hours of The Voice on Monday night. Save for maybe airing after This Is Us, there’s no better way in order to kick-start a series out there. We’re going to have a chance to see Manifest start off with a big potential audience, and whether or not it keeps them is based on quality.

So what could hold it back? We think that there are a few different things, starting with the competitiveness of the 10:00 p.m. Eastern timeslot this fall. Manifest is going to be airing against two other very-popular shows in The Good Doctor and Bull that each are going to have rather-large audiences; it is going to have to find its own way to navigate through this and get people watching every week. This Is Us is showing that you can be a serialized drama and still perform well, but that was a once-in-a-generation show. Manifest is the sort of series that we could see performing very well on a Netflix or an Amazon where binge-watching is valuable. As for whether or not that works for NBC, time will tell.

As of right now, we’re expecting Manifest to premiere with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic. If it does manage to fare better than that, it may have enough momentum to make it to a second season.

I know cartermatt isn't really a big name in terms of TV that other sites are, but when it comes to NBC they do seem to know. They're always at One Chicago Day, for one, and seem to get the most from that day.

Thanks for that. That's good to know about One Chicago. Which shows are they competing with in the 10 PM time slot?

Oh wow, that's a great start and it had a better rating than The Voice, hopefully it won't adjust down and will keep the same/similar rating next week. It's also the kind of show that can grow significantly in the live+3 and live+7 ratings.
