I should have used the term home bound services. If he is too sick to go to school, the school system has to provide a teacher in the house. Not one of his family but a school employee. It is Federal Law.

That seems the best option available, then. Would cover be provided if the teacher was sick and obviously couldn't go? Even their having a mild cold could be bad news for Cal.

My understanding is yes. They have to provide a free appropriate education. And Cal would qualify for Other Medical Impairmnet under the IDEA act. I am not an educator but I have a son with special needs who was also extremely sick back when he was 4-5, but by kindergarten was well enough to attend school. We had homebound speech therapy in preschool under the clause.

It would actually be a good psa. A lot of US parents do not know all their kids rights under IDEA. I haven’t actually watched Speechless but given the premise, I would guess they have touched on it. I cannot think of any other show I have watched ever doing it.

I watched Speechless in the beginning. Their son went to school. Their was a whole issue about making it accessible to him, iirc. Not sure if that changed.
