Could be. It could even be that them having demons no one has heard of for years being symbolic of a disease no one had heard of/dealt with before too. As frustrating as it is even Macy & Harry not being able to touch could be symbolising even couples being forced apart by covid too. An unnecessary plot & cruel given they've never been together, but it does have connections.
We might see them being extra cautions with Mel's character too I imagine as I presume she's higher risk __________________

I thought it might be the show’s way of commenting on the current state of the world with covid without actually having covid be part of the plot.
