Hi! Welcome to the Photography Challenge Thread!

Jule (Endless Fighter) and Tina (- Tina -) will be handling the challenges and the votes for this thread!

Before we go on, we want all of you to write "Photography Rocks" somewhere in your post so we know that you've read the rules and understand.

The Rules:

One picture per challenge unless stated.

Always post the thumbnail (through PM ~ either to Jule or Tina) of your picture! (imageshack gives thumbnails automatically)

Photos are supposed to be newly taken for the challenge, unless otherwise stated. (we know we can't really know if your pictures is old or new, but we trust you to follow the rules

)

Voting:

When voting, you can vote for your favorite three! (Again, send a PM to whoever is holding that challenge)

There will be First, Second, and Third places. (Winners will recieve a banner)

Voting will usually end Sunday at 6:00 PM EST.

Any type of camera can be used, and any participate can take part of the challenge!

At last, have fun with this!

Without further ado, the first challenge:

Theme: Contrast
Opposites attract! Light/Shadow, Young/old, big/small, soft/hard, wet/dry, warm/cold... everything goes as long as it is in one picture.
Colors: Color or b/w (You pick!)
Changes: No changes allowed in this challenge. (Which means, NO EDITING IN PHOTOSHOP!)

Deadline: Friday May 29th at 6pm EST

So let me get this straight, no photoshopping allowed but some of you have awesome cameras that capture light/colour more effectively than others and that's alright?

first of all, it doesn't matter who has what kind of camera, you just have to figure out what settings to use on yours... I only use my normal every day digi cam as well, not my prof one.

Like Jessie said on the photography thread, check out the settings other people use on flickr or check for settings for your cam online... See this as a good chance to try out new things

and furthermore, not using photoshop is not a general rule... it's just the rule for this challenge... there will also be challenges where you will be allowed to use photoshop, so don't worry

I know my way around my camera, so I know its limitations.

By photoshopping I meant just brightening pics, that's about it....we're gonna be able to use PS in later comps, that strikes me as odd..

Evie: Some people use PS to colorize, brighten, or add text to their photographs. This is their preference. You do not have to do it when there is a challenge where you can use PS.

What if you shoot raw?

are you allowed to change any of the settings then, or do you have to leave it completely untouched?

I'm talking about brightening photos in this challenge. It baffles me that it's not allowed. I am all for photoshopping in pics, just not adding text & effects to them, that's not photography to me, but again personal opinion. Doing challenges down the track where you can photoshop text etc onto pics, isn't that pretty much a fanart competition?

Evie: When I was talking about text, I was talking about how people add their username (stealing purposes) to the photographs. And I was just talking in general. Honestly, what people do in PS, they can also do behind the camera. I also do understand that all cameras don't give out the same quality, but all should have a thing where you can brighten/darken the picture right then and there.

When it says no editing then there is no editing (if you decide to enter a b/w then you are allowed to use PS to turn the pic b/w if your camera doesn't have a b/w setting). challenges are to see how people can work with their camera... that's the challenge

everyone can take pic, drag it in some some programm and brighten it or whatever.
And in futur challenges it might say "contrast changes allowed" or "color changes allowed" or whatever... who knows, it always depends on the challenge

Just see it as a challenge to to try your best without photoshop... this is supposed to make fun
